French Open Tennis 2025 – Women’s Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

We are down to the semi-finals of the French Open with it being the turn of the women to go first on Thursday as four will become two on the Philippe Chatrier Court at Roland Garros as we find out who will make the final of the clay court major.

It looked like we were going to have arguably the best four players in the world competing in these semi-finals but then a fairytale story decided it needed an extra chapter adding to it to add a little extra intrigue to the day.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Iga Swiatek

Regardless of who was in the other semi-final of the tournament the pick of the two matches is the opening game as the world number one Aryna Sabalenka goes up against the defending champion Iga Swiatek in a potential blockbuster.

Sabalenka has looked near impregnable in this tournament to date but this is Swiatek’s manor and she will be looking to maintain her status as the queen of clay. To be fair to the Pole, she has definitely improved as the tournament has gone on and her confidence has risen as a result of that. This one is a battle of brute force against a bit more artistry and feel and on a hard court I’d be all over Sabalenka here but on the clay I just can’t ignore Swiatek at odds against. Her record on this surface is incredible and it improves on this court where she is rarely ever beaten. You do sense that this could become a real battle so the match Swiatek had with an equally big hitting Elena Rybakina earlier in the tournament could serve her well here. I’m not saying Sabalenka hasn’t got a chance but with the potential for the roof to be closed, slowing up the conditions even more, I can’t let Swiatek go at odds against without backing her.

Lois Boisson vs Coco Gauff

The second semi-final could be seen as something of a mismatch and when you consider that it is world number 361 vs world number 2 when Lois Boisson meets Coco Gauff you could understand why but that doesn’t even paint an ounce of the picture.

Boisson might have been ranked 361 coming in here but she is clearly a whole lot better than that and she is better than the 150 she currently resides at. There is obviously the potential for the fairytale to end here but you now have to think that it is going to take something special to beat the woman previously most famous for being accused of stinking by Harriet Dart. She has certainly caused a stink with her tennis this fortnight and Gauff is the latest challenger looking to deny this fairytale the most incredible conclusion. This has danger signs all over it for Gauff for me. Her serve looked weak against Madison Keys in the quarter final and we know the American will have the crowd right against her. That crowd got the better of Mirra Andreeva in the last eight and if you go back to the Rome final, Gauff visibly struggled against a vociferous home crowd against Jasmine Paolini. This Chatrier mob can be even rowdier than that so that is something that has to be factored in here. I don’t want to go against Gauff but Boisson is giving me Emma Raducanu at the US Open in 2021 vibes so I don’t want to take her on either. The games line for this one is 19.5 and when you consider that in her last two matches Gauff has won a set 7-5 and lost another 7-6, while Boisson won the opening set of her quarter final in a tiebreak, I think there is scope for that to be covered. I think Gauff could get herself in a hole but she is smart enough to get out of it but not before we get to a 20th game.
