The Global Super League returns from a night off on Friday when the host side and current table toppers Guyana Amazon Warriors play their second match of the tournament against a Victoria side who make their competition bow here.
Guyana Amazon Warriors were the favourites for the tournament going into it and got off to a winning start. Victoria will know there isn’t a lot of room to move if they lose this match so will want to open up their campaign with a win.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
It would probably be wrong to expect a team to look perfect in the opening game of a competition when they haven’t played together for a couple of months or more and it is fair to say that they were nothing like perfect but they played the key moments of the win over the Lahore Qalandars well and now they know another win here will give them every chance of pushing on and making the final of the tournament that they are hosting.
They will want their bowling to offer up more pressure on the opposition in the early and middle stages of the innings but when you have the ability to pull things back in the way that they showed in the first game it probably isn’t that important. We could be forgiven for thinking that we would have seen more fireworks from a Caribbean outfit with the bat but now that they have the win on the board we might see them flourish more here.
Victoria
I guess all eyes will be on Victoria in this match to see exactly what they are bringing to the party. They are the only team in the competition who don’t play in a domestic T20 competition so you sense that they are going to be disadvantaged by that but we won’t know exactly by how much until we have seen them in action. One thing that we do know is that conditions here are going to be much different to the ones that they face back home.
To be fair to Victoria, they have recruited some overseas help which would suggest that they are definitely here to make an impression on the tournament. Those overseas players are generally batters so you would imagine that the batting will deliver the goods here so the attention is likely to fall on their bowlers to see what they have to offer. They will be up against it though because if you allow this Guyana side the opportunity to cut loose they will do exactly that.

Key Players
Dwaine Pretorius was the star in the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ win over the Lahore Qalandars in their opening match and he didn’t even get the chance to have a bat. His death bowling will be required here you would think.
Joe Clarke has played enough franchise cricket around the world to know what this is all about and if Victoria are going to be competitive here then the Englishman might be needed to fire them off to a good start before the spinners come on and look to squeeze things.
Betting
This isn’t the easiest match to bet on given that we don’t know exactly what Victoria are bringing to the party. I would be very surprised if Guyana Amazon Warriors don’t win this one but at 1/6 I’ll let them do it if they are good enough to. The handicap is a large one which doesn’t interest me either so I’ll go with a player performance bet for this encounter and that is the one which belongs to Roston Chase who should play a key part here.
He has a performance line of 28.5 which will look very low if he bowls in this innings and you would imagine that although this match will likely be on a different pitch, the pitches are only going to tire with all the action that is on the square over this tournament so there is a strong chance Chase will bowl his off spin. Even if he doesn’t he will be the one that is there to glue the innings together so he could easily total up 29 runs in the match. He is a tall guy so he’ll be in the key fielding spots so there is more than enough to think he can reach 29 points in this encounter.
