Gold Cup 2019 Football – Sunday 30th June Quarter Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The last two quarter finals of the Gold Cup take place on Sunday night when the bottom half of the draw is played out in Philadelphia where all eyes will be on the hosts USA to see if they can make it through to the last four.

We should be in for a fairly competitive night of football actually with the closest of the four last eight matches on paper opening up the show before what could be a one-sided final game of the round.

Jamaica vs Panama (22.30)

Two sides who will harbour hopes of going all the way in this tournament open up the Sunday night party when Jamaica, winners of Group C in the first stage of the competition, take on Group D runners up Panama in an interesting clash.

Both these sides have been quite tight thus far in the event. I would argue Jamaica haven’t lived up to the hype or expectation thus far but at the same time I’m aware that these things are not always how you start but more how you finish. It is hard to say if we’ve seen the best of Panama either because the only game they would have been genuinely tested in, both themselves and USA were already through and as such rested a whole bunch of players.

I sense this could be a really tight and nervy affair. We’ve already seen one match in this round go to penalties and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one has that much mileage in it either. These are two sides who can organise themselves defensively and who might just lack the x-factor needed up front. Both sides are 17/2 to win on penalties and that looks worth a point on each to me.

USA vs Curacao (01.30)

There is a David vs Goliath feel about the second of the matches on the evening as the powerful USA side take on the lowest ranked team to make it to the quarter final stage of the event in Curacao, a team whose story is something of a fairy tale already.

I think the story comes to an end here though. I’m nothing like convinced by this USA side but Curacao have been outshot almost 3:1 in terms of shots on target so far in this tournament and have allowed three sides who don’t really have devastating attacks in Jamaica, Honduras and El Salvador 61 efforts at their goal in total.

You’ve got to think that however good or bad USA are, they will take a couple if presented with that number of chances so unless the Curacao goalkeeper has another insane game, and he can’t keep doing that, then I expect a pretty one-sided victory for the hosts in this one.
