Horse Racing: 2000 Guineas 2025 – Big Race Tips and Betting Preview

It is a huge weekend in the horse racing world with the first classics of the campaign taking place in the UK along with one of the biggest races in the sport going to post over in America. In the UK all eyes will be on Newmarket.

The 2000 Guineas is the big race on the card and is very much a betting proposition despite there being a relatively warm favourite. There isn’t anything that we like on the undercard so we are all about the big one here.

3.35 Newmarket – 2000 Guineas

Preview

The first classic of the season sees a field of 11 go to post & the one they all have to beat in recent Craven winner, Field Of Gold.   His yard said he was only 85% fit for that so, if that’s true, his rivals will have to go some to catch him but, in a hot race, I couldn’t be taking 6/4.   Surely, there’s better value elsewhere?   Champion 2-year old Shadow Of Light is in here but he’s been deserted by Buick & might prefer a spot or two of rain, whilst Expanded is the sole representation for the Aiden O’Brien but was really an 11th hour replacement for Twain. Ruling Court is probably the one that should give the favourite the most to do but odds of 4/1 suggests that the market hasn’t missed that.

This leads me to looking in search of a big priced each way player & that comes in the shape of Seagulls Eleven, a horse owned by a few current & ex Brighton football players.  He raced 6 times as a 2 year old, winning only once but that does not tell the whole story.   He was 2nd behind Ancient Truth in the Group 2 Superlative but finished 2 lengths of Wimbledon Hawkeye who is half the price here.  For reference, that same rival was around 3 lengths behind Field Of Gold in the Craven a couple of weeks ago.  He then went to the Curragh for the National Stakes & was a close 3rd behind Scorthy Champs who is less than a quarter of the price today.  He would probably have been 2nd too had it not been for a couple of hefty bumps inside the final furlong.   I am happy to ignore his last 2 runs – soft ground & the 2 small groups did not help in the Dewhurst although he did run respectably whilst the trip to the US for the Breeders Cup clearly didn’t suit.   His trainer has spoken positively of his prep & recent racecourse gallop.   At such rewarding odds, I can see him easily sneaking into a place where some bookies are paying 4 places.

Tips

Back Seagulls Eleven (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 34.00 Bet365 (⅕ odds 1-4)
