Horse Racing – Curragh Sunday 13th September Tips and Betting Preview

The final classic of the English racing season might have been run but there is still plenty to look forward to on Sunday, including another cracking card over in Ireland as well as some decent action in France as well.

That is not to forget the many UK meetings that are taking place on Sunday but our attention is firmly on that excellent day of racing over at the Curragh where there are two runners that really take our fancy.

A cracking 21 runner sprint handicap over 6 furlongs kicks off a super day’s racing at the Curragh.  With runners spread across the track, it pays to follow the pace which appears to be high with Highland Dress & Downforce amongst those who may go forward.  After a good run in the Great St Wilfrid, Mr Lupton shades favouritism but he holds no secrets from the handicapper whilst Treacherous has gone from strength to strength but has another rise in mark to contend with.  Romantic Proposal won the Scurry 2 starts back so cannot be discounted, the same can be said of Gulliver who is 6lbs better off with the winner for a short head defeat.

Betting

3 year old Big Gossey is the selection.  He’s unexposed having raced just 6 times in his short career but there are no concerns over the bustle of a big field given he landed a win over course & distance on his handicap debut in a 17 runner race.  He won well that day & is 6lbs higher here against older horses but the form has since taken a boost.  The first 3 came clear so the form looks solid & the 2nd has since won a handicap off 7lb higher & finished 2 lengths 5th in the Scurry off 9lb higher, just behind Romantic Proposal & Gulliver.   Next time up, he was 3rd over 5 furlongs when the drop in trip didn’t suit.  With improvement to come & a good draw, he must surely go very close in a competitive heat.

Tips

Back Big Gossey (e/w) for a 1.5/10 stake at 10.00 Paddy Power BOG (⅕ odds 1-6)

The Group 2 Blandford Stakes over a mile & a quarter looks like a good opportunity for Magic Wand, a solid Group 1 performer who is eased in class for this.  Of the others, One Voice ran Fancy Blue to a neck in the Nassau but her form has an uneven look to it whilst Cayenne Pepper hasn’t quite hit the heights expected of her.   Thundering Nights has had a good season & continue on the upgrade but it’s another with a similarly progressive profile that we’re siding with.

Betting

Lemista has done nothing wrong this season, winning 3 from 3.  She kicked off by winning a Group 3 before following up with an emphatic victory dropped into Listed company.  Last time out, stepping up to this class, she won again where she kept on well over a furlong less at this track.  Back in 5th that day was One Voice who is half the price here; that just doesn’t make sense to me even if you account for the fact One Voice didn’t get the clearest of runs in the straight.  Whilst she may not have enough to get the better of Magic Wand, she’s sure to go well at a good price.

Tips

Back Lemista (e/w) for a 0.5/10 stake at 11.00 William Hill BOG (⅕ odds 1-3)

Back it here:

Back Lemista (e/w) in the ‘without Magic Wand’ market for a 1/10 stake at 7.50 Bet365 (⅕ odds 1-3)
