Fresh from a couple of winners at the Breeders Cup meeting on Saturday night, the attention swiftly returns closer to home where there is a solid card taking place at the Curragh with some good betting opportunities on show.
There is a Listed race in among the card and after a good look through the racecard we’re getting involved in a pair of races as we look to back up the excellent work that was done with those two winners at Del Mar.

A proper cavalry charge down the 7 furlong course & any number of these have claims in a wide open race. I’ll be taking 2 against the field, the first in the form of Mythical Rock. He’s a 3 year old who has only raced 7 times & whilst he’s yet to enter the winners enclosure, his turn surely isn’t far away. He’s been 3 times second but showed his best form to date when 4th on handicap debut at Galway last week. It was his first time on heavy ground & didn’t have ideal conditions given he was out wide & was the only one of the first few home to have made up any ground from the rear. He benefited from the shorter trip & I think another furlong less where he can adopt a more prominent position will be in his favour. As one of the most unexposed runners in the field, I’d be a shade disappointed if he wasn’t in the mix. At a bigger price, I cannot leave Mile End out of calculations for her inexperienced 10lb claiming jockey. A proven soft ground performer, she has some recent form that puts her right in the frame here. She absolutely hacked up 3 starts ago off an 11lb lower mark but she’s capable of defying her new mark given the ease in which that victory came. In 2 runs since, she’s performed with credit, both at this track over a furlong shorter. First, she was eyecatching in defeat when repeatedly denied a clear run & then, last time out, she was less than 2 lengths 6th when weakening late after having too much use made of her early doors. Back 1lb in mark, or arguably 4lbs with the additional claim, she could go really well at a big price.

3.35 Curragh
A big field for a Listed race but there’s a lot of no hopers in here & we do also have an odds on favourite in the form of 8 year old Hamish. A very good horse who was 2nd in a Group 2 last time out & has also finished just a length behind Luxembourg earlier in the year, he must go well but he might need some luck in running from an inside draw. Layfayette is another solid performer in this grade but I like the chances of a more unexposed type in the form of 3 year old Galileo Dame. She scooted up in her maiden back in April & since then has performed with credit in finishing 4th in the Cheshire Oaks & 2nd last time out in the Listed Bluebell Stakes. The winner of that last race was Caught U Looking who has finished 5th in both the English & Irish Oaks so the fact she only gave way to her & was in front of 14 other rivals, including a few who re-oppose today is solid form. She needs to improve again but I think she will, especially with the even softer conditions certain to suit. She’s the each way play of the race.
Tips
Back Galileo Dame (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 9.00 Unibet (⅕ odds 1-4)
