Horse Racing – Good Friday – Lingfield All-Weather Championships Tips & Betting Preview

It is the All-Weather Championships day at Lingfield Park on Good Friday and the ITV4 cameras and crew will be there to cover it all. After a wonderful week of betting at the Craven Meeting we are looking to strike while the iron is hot and we’ve picked out four bets across the card to attack beginning with the non-televised race and including three that are on the box.

The opener sees the only handicap on the card, a 14 runner, 7 furlong event for apprentices.  Last year, 5 of the first 6 home occupied the bottom 5 stalls so the draw is something to pay particular attention to.

The 3 market leaders are drawn 6, 7 and 8.  Of the 3, Breathless Times is unproven in this grade, Lion Hearted has a fantastic sequence of wins to his name but has never done anything about Class 4 whilst Gallipoli, 3rd in this last year, is on a career high mark.

Betting

It’s worth chancing Apex King at a much bigger price.  He won twice as a 2 year old including a Listed race but has proved hard to win with since until he won in this grade back in January under today’s rider.

Off his revised mark of 86, he was 2nd behind 112- rated Oh This Is Us who, at the time of writing, is favourite for the All Weather Mile later on this card.

Since then, he’s been outclassed in 2 Listed races although wasn’t disgraced on either occasions.  Sandwiched between those runs was a 3rd place in a handicap won by Cardsharp where Gallipoli was 2 lengths better off in 2nd.  That day, they went off at similar odds, indicating their supposed chances and the selection is 1lb better off today.  Whilst that might not be enough to turn the tables, the bigger field which should help him settle better (took keen hold last time) and better draw might prove pivotal. At 3 times the price of Gallipoli, he looks a decent each way punt.

Tips

VOID – Back Apex King (e/w) for a 0.5/10 stake at 17.00 Boylesports BOG (⅕ odds 1-4)

The 7 furlong fillies and mares has attracted 12 runners with Island Of Life the current favourite.

This looks a tricky puzzle to solve.  Island Of Life is 3lb worse of with Castle Hill Cassie for just over 1 length whilst the latter name is 5lb better off with Rasima for a 3 length beating in a November Listed event here.   Rasima, however, should find this trip too sharp.  It leads us to the conclusion that Castle Hill Cassie is the one with the best chance but she is possible better over at Wolverhampton.

Betting

Of the others, Clon Coulis and Gorgeous Noora are running over the wrong trip so French raider Silvery Mist might be the one.  Whilst the trainer brings 3 over, it’s the only ride for Stephane Pasquier and that appears to be significant.  Pasquier gets on really well with this horse and him taking the ride coincided with a very progressive second half of 2018 with 3 wins and 3 further places from 6 runs.  Interestingly, 4 of those were in big fields of 16+ runners so this 12 runner field won’t phase her unlike some of her rivals.

Quite often, she’s been noted as quickening up and staying on strongly which is the perfect combination here.  Admittedly she probably needed her reappearance but that run will have put her spot on for this and with the French having such a good meeting here last year, she’s taken to add to that tally at a very rewarding each way price.

Tips

PLACED – Back Silvery Mist (e/w) for a 0.5/10 stake at 13.00 Coral BOG (⅕ odds 1-3)

The 3 year old race is over 6 furlongs with 12 again heading to post.

This time it is another French raider, Pizzicato, that heads the market but there’s a strong suspicion this trip could prove a bit too sharp.   Over 6 furlongs here, the first bend comes at you quickly and, with this being a race full of pace, well fancied Charming Kid and Deep Intrigue appear to have it all to do from the highest 2 stalls.

Betting

The only confirmed hold up runner in the race is Concierge, exiting from stall 7.  He qualified for this at Newcastle in October where he quickened clear off the field to win smartly by almost 3 lengths.

Since then, he’s been over to Doha for 2 runs where he first won a valuable conditions race.   That day, another UK runner Don Armada was 7 lengths back in 4th.   A line through that race suggests the selection could be vastly underrated and has the beating for James Street, Charming Kid and Deep Intrigue.

His next run was a no show but this was in a Group 2 so it can be forgiven.   This is George Scott’s only runner of the day and, perhaps more encouraging is the fact that in form William Buick comes here for just the one ride.

The shape of the race should set it up for Concierge and provided he doesn’t experience trouble in running, he should go very close indeed.

Tips

Back Concierge (e/w) for a 1.5/10 stake at 7.00 William HIll BOG (⅕ odds 1-3)

The final race on the card in the Mile with 11 going into battle.

Keyser Soze is in cracking form but has yet to prove he’s better than a handicapper whilst Straight Right has a good all weather record but not at Lingfield.

Betting

Several of those ran in the Lady Wulfruna at Wolverhampton and the one to take out of that race was Documenting.  He was the 2nd favourite for that race behind today’s market leader Oh This Is Us but was well on top of him at the finish.  He was only 5th with Above The Rest the winner and Cardsharp also ahead of the selection.   However, he got no sort of run after travelling sweetly and finished on the heels of the leaders.   With a clear run, he would surely have gone very close and would be shorter in the betting here.

He’s been an improver since being switched to the sand with each of his last 5 runs seeing him record an improved RPR.   Included in those runs were a comfortable win here over a furlong shorter before an impressive winner at Wolverhampton where he spreadeagled a decent field, coming home 7 lengths in front.  That day, he appreciated the strong pace which he is almost assured to get again today.

The jockey booking of James Doyle catches the eye for the unfashionable yard of Kevin Frost and he looks a super bet to round off a great days racing.

Tips

Back Documenting (e/w) for a 1.5/10 stake at 8.00 Boylesports BOG (⅕ odds 1-3)
