Horse Racing: Redcar – Easter Monday Tips and Betting Preview

Much of the racing attention on Easter Monday is on the Irish National and as we build up to the English version at the weekend there is naturally going to be a lot of focus on the jump racing scene over the next few days.

We’ve already previewed the Irish National here but there is still the continuation of the English flat season as well and on a day where there are a number of cards, we’ve come up with one bet to hopefully get us off the mark domestically.

Away from the Irish National, there’s a Class 5 handicap on the level over 6 furlongs with 13 going to post.   The favourite is Sir Oliver who’s been running well on the all weather but has yet to finish in the first 3 in 6 starts on turf so that’s enough for us to want to take him on.  Of his main rivals in the betting, Stallone has won 3 times & all of those were on heavy ground, conditions he almost certainly won’t get today, whilst Ghathanfar may need an extra furlong.   Athollblair Boy is another whose best form is on the all weather with Yukon Mission the likely biggest danger to the selection is ready to go on her first start for over 200 days.

Betting

However, the selection is Na Blianta Beo who is having her second run for the yard since coming over from Ireland, with this being her first run since wind surgery & with a first time tongue tie applied.  As a 3 year old, she raced 7 times over in Ireland, performing with credit on almost each run, with a couple of obvious things to note.  She’s not a 5 furlong horse & she’ll probably be better on better ground.  On her 3 starts over trips beyond the minimum, her form reads 4th of 14 in a Listed event, neck 2nd of 18 in a maiden &, again, 2nd of 18 in a maiden.

What’s striking is that the 4 horses to beat her are now rated 90, 98, 99 & 86, and in that Listed race, 9 of the front 10 are rated in the 90s; the exception being the selection who is now down to a mark of just 75.  A repeat of that form, where she recorded a RPR of 93, would see her hose up here.  Since coming to the UK, she’s had one run, last month at Southwell with the fibresand better suited to soft ground horses.   Add to that it was over 5 furlongs & it’s easy to ignore her 4th of 6.   Back on turf, over an extra furlong & with ground likely to have firm in the description, she could easily be the best of these in a very winnable race.
