The International League T20 continues on Monday when there is one match in the ILT20 campaign as the impressive Dubai Capitals take on the Gulf Giants with the competition remaining in Dubai for this one.
Both teams have played once match in the tournament which they won and so whoever comes out on top in this encounter will set the early pace in the league table. That should hopefully ensure we get a high quality contest.
Dubai Capitals
I think the Dubai Capitals went into their opening match probably as the outsiders to beat the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders but it soon became apparent that they had the beating of their fellow IPL owned side. I think that was largely over the quality of their seam attack which on paper didn’t look like it carried the credentials or the depth to compete but that wasn’t the case and once they got stuck in then the result was never in doubt.
The warning sign would be that the Knight Riders followed up that loss with another abject defeat but there was a lot to like about the Capitals, not least the way they took the game on with the bat. You wouldn’t really associate with Joe Root playing that sort of role so the fact he was doing it suggests that was a clear intention of the team. Their spinners look in good order so the longer this tournament goes on the better you would expect the Dubai side to get.
Gulf Giants
The Gulf Giants were the last time to get their ILT20 campaign underway but it was worth the wait when they did because they played some of the best cricket we’ve seen in the competition. It should be said that the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders look in a bit of trouble early doors in this competition but you still have to beat what is in front of you and the Giants did that impressively. What was good about the win was they had a competitive disadvantage but didn’t let it show.
The immediately apparent thing regarding the Gulf Giants was the amount of bowling options they had in their team. I always like that in a side because inevitably someone is going to have a bad day or get unlucky. They left four genuine bowling options out of the team as well so there could be even more to come from them. The one thing they need to do here is that age old issue of backing up a good performance the next day. That might be the big challenge here.

Key Players
I highlighted in the opening game of the tournament how Joe Root might think he has a point to prove and he certainly looked to show he can play the modern crash, bang wallop style. It will be interesting to see if he can put a bigger score up playing that way.
Every new team looks to its captain to perform and Jaames Vince did that right from the start with a brutal innings on Sunday. He looked to be continuing the good form he brought from the Big Bash and the Giants would welcome him going well again here.
Betting
The pitches have played really well in Dubai in this tournament and I don’t see any reason why that won’t continue here. We know that the ball is going to come onto the bat nicely throughout the match once the dew gets involved and that makes me think that we are going to see a number of sixes in a match between two teams that have insane batting depth and on a ground which isn’t the biggest and where bowlers might be up against it.
The Dubai Capitals had Ravi Bopara coming in at seven in their opening match while the Gulf Giants had Liam Dawson on the card to come in at eight so there is certainly no shortage of batters here. There might even be more big hitters on show if the Gulf Giants unleash Chris Lynn. The sixes line for this match is only 10.5 which the Capitals covered on their own in the opening match of the tournament. The Giants are sure to hit some sixes as well and with both teams having bowlers who can go I expect this line to be covered.
