There are now just two matches left in the regular season of the inaugural International League T20 competition and the first of those comes on Sunday when the Dubai Capitals put their ILT20 life on the line against the MI Emirates.
The Capitals go into this one knowing they have to win it to move into fourth spot and hope that Sharjah won’t win their last match, or win it by a sizeable margin that Sharjah will need to win by a certain amount. Regardless of what happens here MI Emirates will finish third and will need to win three matches to win the tournament.
Dubai Capitals
The Dubai Capitals haven’t had the season they would have wanted but if they win four matches from here they will come away with the trophy and nobody will remember how they began the competition. The first thing they have to do is win here else they are out but if they can win by a decent margin and force Sharjah to have to win big on Monday it might be to their advantage, especially as they will be facing a Gulf Giants who are playing for nothing.
If the Capitals are going to win this by the sort of margin which would really boost their chances of making the latter stages of the tournament then they simply need their batting to come to the party. We haven’t really seen the destructive side of their game since Joe Root departed for England duty and that has to be a concern. Their attack has really picked up since Adam Zampa arrived but that means little if they don’t put the right number of runs on the board.
MI Emirates
The MI Emirates round off their regular season knowing they will need to win three matches in pretty quick proximity over the next week in order to win this inaugural title. It will be interesting to see how they go about their business in this match, whether they use to it get players who they might need down that hectic stretch into top nick or whether they put their best team out and look to get them full of confidence for what they hope will be the three matches to come.
To be fair to the Emirates, their batting has delivered on the power that it looked like it had throughout their order on paper. They have sometimes been guilty of letting teams get away from them when they have had the ball in hand which is why they are not going to finish higher up the table than they are, but if those bowlers come to the party when it really matters then this is a team who could easily sweep through and take the title.

Key Players
Rovman Powell is the one man in this Dubai Capitals side who can take a total and enhance it to something really special. It will be interesting to see if he sends himself in early to try and propel the scoring rate to what is needed.
Muhammed Waseem was given the platform to show that he is a world class act in this format of the game and he hasn’t disappointed in that regard. He is getting more and more brutal with every innings and a big one here could lead MI Emirates to victory.
Betting
I got involved in a dead rubber on Saturday and it didn’t go my way so I’m not going to invest too much into the match betting here. We don’t really know how the MI Emirates are going to approach this one but there is so much power in their batting that they should still look to biff balls out of the park regardless of who actually plays for them. The Capitals should be looking to smack some big hits as well to improve their net run rate beyond the Sharjah one so there is the potential for six hitting here.
While any win will do for the Capitals in the short term, a win of around 40 runs or in about 15 overs would make Sharjah need to come up with a decent win on Monday to knock them out so if they get into range for that then I would expect to see intent to clear the ropes. The sixes line for this match is only at 11.5 and the boundaries looked perfectly accessible when the likes of James Vince and Alex Hales were going here on Saturday. I’ll take the over with the hitting power these two teams have up their sleeves.
