India vs Australia – 2nd ODI Betting Preview

India eased to victory in the opening ODI against Australia at the weekend and on Tuesday they have the chance to take a real dominance in the series when the two sides meet in the second ODI in Nagpur.

Australia didn’t get in the groove at all in Hyderabad and while they will expect a better performance here, they will need to produce much better than they showed in that first game just to be competitive here.

India

I would imagine that India will have been surprised at how easy it proved to be for them in that opening ODI. I say that because Australia came out all guns blazing in the T20s and come out on top and I’m sure India will have been expecting a tough match in Hyderabad. That they didn’t get one though will probably have pleased them especially given the amounts of cricket they have played recently.

India got the job done with the ball in that first game. Scores below 250 in this day and age have the team setting with an uphill task ahead of them and that won’t have been lost on anyone on either team. Worryingly for Australia, the weakness that India appeared to have no longer appears to be as weak as it seemed, which will give the home side plenty of confidence.

Australia

There is no doubt that Australia will have been disappointed after the first match. You always are when you lose but I reckon they will have really believed they were in a position to lay it down to India after their excellent pair of wins in the T20 matches, but they were never really in the match at any stage which might even disappoint them the most.

They need a massive improvement in all areas of the game if they are going to get themselves level in this series but you would have to think the gap they need to bridge will be hard to do in such a short space of time. They seem to play with a fear in this format of the game for some reason and could do with throwing the shackles off and having a right good go.

Team News

Given how controlled and comfortable they were in the first match, you would think that India will go in with an unchanged side here, unless they want another spinner with Australia being little better than pathetic against spin.

Australia probably need to make changes but whether they have the personnel to make any difference remains to be seen. There is a possibility of Shaun Marsh being able to play after he flew in late on which would be a boost.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets in this second match. This is a relatively small ground in Nagpur and usually a good batting track with a fast outfield so I’m expecting the boundaries to flow. In a relatively low scoring opening match there were 59 boundaries and when you factor in neither side made 250 in that game there is the room for a lot of improvement in that regard here. If Shaun Marsh does play Australia’s batting will be a bit deeper. I like over 61.5 boundaries here.

I took the performance of MS Dhoni in the previous match and he covered it by a country mile so it is pretty crazy that the line has gone from 40.5 down to 38.5. He scored 94 in that first match, 59* with the bat and 35 in the field with a stumping and a catch so you would have to suggest the chances of this line being covered is pretty high. I was going to take a higher line so a lower one looks a gift and one I’m not going to ignore.
