India vs New Zealand – 3rd ODI Tips and Betting Preview

India and New Zealand conclude their ODI series in Indore on Tuesday with the two sides meeting for the third and final time as they continue their preparations for the World Cup which is only nine months away.

India have already won the series after their emphatic win in the second game on Saturday but with T20 matches to follow and that World Cup starting to get ever closer this should be anything but a dead rubber.

India

India have won a high scoring match in this series and a lower scoring one. They edged over the line in the first game but powered home in the second one and they will be looking to complete a clean sweep here. That might not have as much emphasis as it normally would but when you consider that New Zealand could be a potential rival when the World Cup comes along it could be quite significant if they can indeed win this match.

I think it is fair to expect a match similar to the first one of the series rather than the second one so the India batters are going to have to stand up and be counted in this one. Their bowlers are probably going to be rotated in this game given the workload that India have over the next few weeks so those coming in will need to go well but I think on this ground they will readily accept that there is a chance they will go round the ground.

New Zealand

If India will be happy with how the opening two matches have gone, New Zealand will be the exact opposite. I say that because they haven’t really shown up yet. Their top order has hardly scored any runs in the opening two matches. In the first one their lower order bailed them out of trouble but there was no coming back from the position they got themselves in during the second game. If New Zealand are to get what would be a consolation as far as this series is concerned then their top order needs to come to the party.

It is a little harsh to judge their bowlers on the effort that they put in during the second game because clearly they never looked like having enough runs on the board but they will be disappointed with how they allowed India to get away from them with the bat in that opening game. This won’t be an easy task for them given the tiny size of this ground but if they can offer something it would certainly help them.

Team News

With the T20s in mind India might look at a couple of bowlers that they could use in those matches so Yuzvendra Chahal and Umran Malik could come into the team here. Rajat Patidar might also get his ODI debut.

New Zealand could give a first game of the series to Doug Bracewell and Mark Chapman in this match. The latter is more likely to play given the struggles of the batting so far. Henry Nicholls could be the one to make way for him.

Betting

It is probably slightly risky to take the sixes in this match after what happened to the New Zealand batting in the previous match but I don’t believe they will bat as badly again and this ground in Indore is so tiny that I would expect the sixes to flow even if it is the lower order players who do the hitting. I wouldn’t expect that to be the case though because we see when this ground is used in the IPL how accessible the boundaries are here.

The sixes line for this match is 12.5 which is very much on the low side when you consider that on a much bigger ground than this in the opening game of the series we saw 24 sixes on a much bigger ground than this one in Hyderabad. The pitch at Indore is nearly always good to bat on, so much so that back in 2011 when huge scores in this format weren’t really a thing, India hit 418/5 in a 50 over innings. If they bat first we should sail over this line but I expect a much better showing from New Zealand here so I expect the sixes to come in.
