Indian Premier League 2017 – Best signings of the IPL auction

The latest Indian Premier League season is rapidly approaching and here are kevshatsportsbets we can’t wait for the tournament to begin. We’re going to begin our content with a look at the best five signings in the recent IPL auction. These are players we expect to star throughout the tournament.

1) Tymal Mills – Royal Challengers Bangalore

With Mitchell Starc not around for this season Bangalore needed to find a pace bowler, preferably a left arm one, who can open the bowling and bowl well at the death and do so with plenty of mystery to avoid the short boundaries being targeted and they look to have found an ideal replacement. They had to fork out a few quid, well over £1m in fact but with Mills around for the whole competition they are likely to see a real reward from a very skilful bowler.

2) Kagiso Rabada – Delhi Daredevils

I was really surprised that nobody else seemed as keen to sign the South African quick as the Daredevils were but I think Rabada has landed himself in an ideal spot. The wicket in Delhi is never the flattest so I think Rabada’s pace and seam movement can be very tricky to get away. Rabada gives opponents nothing to target and at just over £600k he looks a bargain even allowing for the fact he will miss some of the tournament on international duty.

3) Rashid Khan – Sunrisers Hyderabad

The defending champions lacked in just one area last season and that was the spin department but they have recognised that and gone and signed a very talented leg spinner in the Afghanistan youngster Rashid Khan. They have also signed Pravin Tambe but I think their big threat this season will be Khan. He might not be as known on the world stage as some others in the tournament but those who don’t know him going in certainly will by the end. He could be a legitimate top bowler threat.

4) Chris Woakes – Kolkata Knight Riders

The former champions needed an all-round talent to take up the duties which have been opened up by the suspension of Andre Russell and while Woakes won’t bang sixes out of the park like Russell can he offers a very solid and clever batting option and plenty of nous and nerve under pressure with the ball which will be important. In comparison to some Englishmen, Woakes has been picked up quite cheaply. He is improving all the time and can come of age further in this tournament.

5) Asela Gunaratne – Mumbai Indians

There were plenty of question marks around the Mumbai Indians batting line up last season but they look to have picked up an absolute bargain with the Sri Lankan star Asela Gunaratne. He came to prominence in South Africa earlier in the year and then guaranteed himself an IPL contract with two majestic innings in Australia where he showed a cool head and a maturity of how to pace a run chase. Those things never go amiss in IPL cricket and at just over £37k he looks the best value signing of the entire lot.
