Indian Premier League 2017 – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Daredevils Betting Preview

The final side to get their Indian Premier League campaign underway do so on Saturday afternoon when the Delhi Daredevils play their first match away to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second half of the double header.

Bangalore have already played one match this season which they lost on the opening night of the competition so both teams will be out for their first win of the campaign in this match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Last season’s beaten finalists Bangalore have already been beaten this season when they went down to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first game of the new campaign. In honesty it was a typical Bangalore performance in that try as they might they just couldn’t stem the flow of runs against them and while they batted well they were never getting home.

Going forward the Royal Challengers simply must find a way of containing sides. The best way to do that is to take wickets so it might be that they need to risk bowling out their best bowlers earlier in the innings but that is always a risky ploy so there is a lot of thinking for the Bangalore hierarchy to do now.

Delhi Daredevils

This will be the first we see of the Delhi Daredevils this season and it will be interesting to see just what we see from them. The Daredevils have been ordinary for too long now so the emphasis is on them to kick on and at least put up a fight for the playoffs even if they don’t quite make it into them.

We know the Daredevils will be strong with the ball given the amount of options that they have at their disposal but where the doubts come in is with the bat. They look light in that area of the game so the players they do have left will need to go big throughout the campaign if they are to make the top four.

Team News

Virat Kohli remains on the sidelines and listening to him during the opening match he is going to be there for a while. AB de Villiers is expected to miss this match too so Bangalore could be unchanged.

Delhi Daredevils are without Quinton de Kock, Angelo Mathews and JP Duminy for this one. Mathews could return at some point but the others are out for the season. Shreyas Iyer is out with chicken pox.

Betting

I’m in no rush to back the Royal Challengers Bangalore right now but until I’ve seen the Delhi Daredevils it is hard to back them either so that leads me to a couple of side markets in this second match.

The obvious side market is the sixes especially on this Bangalore ground where we know the boundaries are within range no matter who is batting and who is playing. The altitude makes the ball go further and the short boundaries encourage six hitting.

Both sides have plenty of big hitters in their ranks and neither team have a load of bowlers who are going to suddenly restrict the opposition so a 13.5 sixes line looks more than achievable to me in this one.

I nearly struck gold with Kedar Jadhav in the opening match and I’m going to take him to top score for Bangalore again. For me he looked the pick of the Bangalore batsmen on Wednesday and until a piece of brilliance ran him out he would surely have top scored. He’s the same price to top score in this match so I’ll chance my arm again.
