Indian Premier League 2017 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians Betting Preview

The final week of the round robin phase of the Indian Premier League begins on Monday with a clash between two sides who go into the match in the top four. Sunrisers Hyderabad host Mumbai Indians in a match which could easily be the final in two weeks time so we should be guaranteed a good match to kick off the week.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are clinging on to a playoff spot at the minute but they can make things much more comfortable for themselves with a win while Mumbai Indians are assured of a spot in the end of season showdown but will be looking to secure a top two finish.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

We all know that the Sunrisers have a wonderful squad but they haven’t been able to find that spell of consistency they have needed to pull away from the rest completely and seal their spot in the playoffs. That said we have seen some sides come back as defending champions and completely feel the pressure. Sunrisers haven’t done that.

When the Sunrisers bat well they generally tend to win but when they lose early wickets they don’t fare so well so it will be important for them that their top class top three get going and keep ahead of any rate. The further down the order they’ve gone the more they have tended to struggle so it might be worth keeping someone back and sacrificing someone.

Mumbai Indians

In seasons past the Mumbai Indians have really struggled in the early stages and then come with a run to make the playoffs but that hasn’t been the case this time. They have been one of the most consistent from the beginning despite losing their first match of the tournament. Since then they have been very solid.

The key to their success is quite simple. Their bowling attack is not letting any side loose at the minute. They have plenty of options in their side to exploit all conditions and their Indian batsmen are coming to the fore on the trickier wickets and the flair players delivering on the good ones. It is a very good combination.

Team News

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be without Ashish Nehra for this match. It has been confirmed that he is out through injury. Chris Jordan is heading back to England soon for international duty.

Jos Buttler is another one leaving the tournament so you would think Lendl Simmons will keep his place in the side after his excellent performance in the previous match. Krunal Pandya hasn’t travelled with the squad.

Betting

These are two good sides and I think as obvious as it sounds whoever plays the best will win the match. What I mean by that is I don’t expect outside influences to determine the outcome of the match. Many bookmakers can’t split these sides and I can’t either if I’m honest.

Matches between these two, whether here in Hyderabad or in Mumbai, tend to be low scoring and I guess that is a combination of reasons. They are two of the best sides in the competition so the intensity goes up and both have excellent bowling attacks which makes run scoring harder would be two big reasons. Given the importance of the match, for the Sunrisers especially, I fancy this one might be low scoring too.

I think the key generally in low scoring matches is early wickets and both these attacks have the power to get them. Mumbai haven’t conceded more than 160 in their last five matches and that stat alone makes the 337.5 total runs line look high but when you have to go back four seasons for the last match between the two to go over it is a fairly simple decision to take the under.
