IPL 2018 – Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians Betting Preview

There is just the one match in the Indian Premier League on Saturday which is rare. It comes from Pune as the Chennai Super Kings host the Mumbai Indians in what is a repeat of the opening match of the campaign.

The Super Kings won that match in quite amazing style at the Wankhede on night one and since then they have gone from strength to strength. The Mumbai Indians have really struggled so it will be interesting to see if this one goes to form.

Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings could easily have lost their first few matches but while they were not always in control of the situation they won most of them and go into this contest with just one loss in their six games so far. They will move two points clear at the top of the table if they can find the win here.

Their batting has been superb this season. In fairness it has had to be because their bowling at times has been quite average and gone around the park. To be fair to the bowlers they are starting to settle into their work which is making the Super Kings a formidable looking side all of a sudden. Even the change of home ground hasn’t disadvantaged them yet.

Mumbai Indians

It is too easy to say that the Mumbai Indians usually start seasons slowly and we expect them to come good. That is true but by this stage of the campaign they are usually showing signs of improvement and offering some hope at least but that certainly is not the case here having failed to chase 119 in their last outing against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The big problem for Mumbai was highlighted perfectly in that match. Their batting just is not function and if it doesn’t click into life soon it will be too late. Realistically the defending champions need to win seven of their last eight to make it back to the playoffs. That may mean they are not drinking in the last chance saloon just yet but the car is approaching the parking lot.

Team News

There is no obvious reason why the Chennai Super Kings would make any changes to their side after a pretty solid last three matches. Imran Tahir bagged a couple of scalps in the last match so there are no immediate personnel issues.

Mumbai Indians need to change something. In fairness to them they don’t have a massive list waiting to come in so if they don’t change their personnel they must change their batting line up even if it is only to send in a pinch hitter or something to get them going.

Betting

I like the Chennai Super Kings here. I say that because there are just no signs of this Mumbai Indians batting line up doing anything. I guess the concern is that this will be more of a home match for the defending champions than it will be the Super Kings but even so it isn’t like Mumbai are buzzing at their own home ground.

The Super Kings bowlers are slowly getting better as a unit and their batting is firing big time. Chennai came from the clouds to beat Mumbai in the opening match of the season but I don’t think they will need anything that dramatic here. I’m on the Super Kings in this one.
