IPL 2018 – Delhi Daredevils vs Chennai Super Kings Betting Preview

We have a rare dead rubber in the Indian Premier League on Friday afternoon when the Delhi Daredevils take on a side with their eyes on the main prize next week in the Chennai Super Kings at the wonderful Feroz Shah Kotla.

Delhi Daredevils already know their participation this season will end on Sunday but the Super Kings know they will be involved next week and want to secure as high a finish as possible to boost their chances in the postseason.

Delhi Daredevils

This has been a season that just hasn’t got going for the Delhi Daredevils and three defeats in a row have ended their campaign as a competitive force. There have been signs of life to build on for next season with three or four of their young batsmen standing up and looking really good so they may not need much work to become a force next season.

The big problem for the Daredevils has been their bowling attack. At no point this season has it looked a cohesive unit and neither has it ever really looked like restricting sides and even when their batsmen have put up a mountain of runs you always felt they can never have enough. That needs addressing next term.

Chennai Super Kings

It hasn’t always been convincing for the Chennai Super Kings this season but they sit comfortably in second place in the table and a win here will see them go top of the pile and guarantee themselves a top two finish which gives them two chances of making it into the final next weekend. That is a big incentive in this match.

The batting for the Chennai Super Kings has been brutal since that opening match of the campaign and there are signs if anything that it is getting stronger as others apart from their opening pair are scoring runs. On the flip side of that their bowling has gone around the park at times and that needs to be rectified ahead of next week.

Team News

You would think Delhi Daredevils will make changes to their bowling attack. There is talk of Liam Plunkett replacing Junior Dala but I’m not sure about that. Harshal Patel is likely to be replaced first.

Chennai Super Kings may well be unchanged from the brutal win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad last time out. Deepak Chahal had a day out in that match and is likely to keep his place from here on in.

Betting

I’m not one for betting on dead rubbers so I’m certainly not going to bet on the outcome of this one although you’ve got to think the Chennai Super Kings are the likely winners given that they have an ounce of something to play for even if it is only preparation for next week.

I expect to see a high scoring match here. The first meeting between these two was high scoring and with little riding on this one I see no reason why this one won’t be either. The last four matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla have cleared 341.5 runs in the match and with the way these two batting line ups are going I fully expect this one to as well.
