IPL 2018 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings Betting Preview

We have another double header of action in the Premier League on Sunday with the opening match coming from Hyderabad as the Sunrisers Hyderabad host the Chennai Super Kings in a battle of two teams on six points so far.

Both teams have been winning matches. Sunrisers have been really impressive in their wins this season while Chennai have sneaked over the line in a couple of matches but it all leaves the same record for both teams.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers were well beaten last time out when they ran into the Gayle force that is Chris Gayle and lost to the Kings XI Punjab. I don’t think there is anything shameful in that though and actually the Punjab side are looking one of the best in the tournament right now. The former champions will be eager to avoid successive defeats though.

It was a surprise to see the Sunrisers bowling attack get carted all around the park. Rashid Khan in particular had a bad day at the office but none of the overs truly covered themselves in glory. When they don’t have the longest batting line up anyway they really don’t need their bowling to go for plenty. It will be interesting to see how they respond here.

Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai Super Kings absolutely battered the Rajasthan Royals in their last match. That was in Pune and now they have moved across to Hyderabad for this one looking for successive wins which would move them level on points with the leaders in the competition. If they can win in a fine manner then so much the better.

Earlier in the campaign the Chennai batting line up did not look strong enough but they have found a formula where they are putting up sizeable runs and that is taking the pressure off their bowling attack, which actually isn’t that bad, on paper at least. If their bowling can suddenly tighten up then you would think they can maintain their early season form.

Team News

Shikhar Dhawan went off with an arm injury in the previous match and there was talk that he did not train with the side on the eve of the match so the Sunrisers Hyderabad could be looking for another opener. Billy Stanlake could replace Chris Jordan if he is fit.

Chennai Super Kings may well be unchanged from their demolition job of the Rajasthan Royals especially with Suresh Raina returning for that match. They do have David Willey and Mark Wood waiting in the wings if they want to change things.

Betting

I’m going to take a punt on the Chennai Super Kings in this match. I just think they have the better balanced side and have a team that can win a match with the bat in their hand first or second. I’m not convinced the Sunrisers can win if they bat second.

I say that because their batting line up looks light and low in form players and that was with Dhawan in their ranks. If he is ruled out through injury then they are going to look very light indeed. Contrast that to Chennai who could well Dwayne Bravo batting at seven and have all the bowling options they need and I think they are worth a punt at even money.
