IPL 2019 – Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab Betting Preview

The second half of the Indian Premier League double header on Saturday comes from the Feroz Shah Kotla where two sides with five wins to their name meet as the Delhi Capitals take on the Kings XI Punjab in a match where a play-off spot can be all but secured for the winner.

Delhi were cruising to victory when these two met in Mohali only to spectacularly collapse so all eyes will be on them to see what they have got for us in this match. This match sees third against fourth going into the weekend battling it out in what should be a competitive clash.

Delhi Capitals

Often by this point in an Indian Premier League season the Delhi Capitals, or Daredevils as they used to be known, would be cut adrift towards the bottom end of the table, but that is not the case this year. They have five wins from their nine matches and have chucked a couple more matches away, including the reverse meeting between these two, else it could have been even better for them.

The problem they have had though is their home ground just does not suit the strengths of their side and as a result it is no surprise that four of their five victories this term have been on the road. They haven’t helped themselves with some bizarre team selections at different times but they do have the excuse of their home pitch being no good for them. They will have to find a way to compete on it though if their path to the play-offs will be made easier.

Kings XI Punjab

One of the landmarks of the success of the Kings XI Punjab this term has been their ability to perform in all conditions. There is no getting away from the fact that they are much stronger on better batting wickets but it isn’t like they can’t mix it when they need to. They haven’t been afraid to chop and change their bowling attack to suit the conditions in front of them and a few teams can learn from that.

The only real issue that the Kings XI have had this season has been finishing their innings off. Quite often they have been given excellent starts to build on but have lacked a finisher with the power to take good scores up to brilliant ones. If they can sort that area out then they would announce themselves as major players over the remainder of the campaign.

Team News

Delhi Capitals surely have to pick Sandeep Lamichhane for this match. It is madness that he didn’t play the last game. Keemo Paul would be the one most likely to come out having offered nothing in the previous match. Colin Ingram has become a father again and may not be back for this match.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked up an injury on the boundary in the last match so Kings XI will be sweating on the fitness of him for this one. If he isn’t fit then Sam Curran or Hardus Viljoen could be the men to come in.

Betting

It is hard not to like the Kings XI Punjab in this match I have to say. It is plainly obvious that the Delhi Capitals do not like their home ground. If anything their performances at this track are getting worse and with the quality of Indian players in the Kings XI outfit I’m expecting them to take advantage of that over the course of the 40 overs here.

Kings XI have a solid batting line up which rarely goes in search of more than what is needed and then they have a spin trio with the ball who should be very tough to score on here. Delhi came apart at the seams with the ball in the previous match and never got going with the bat. Their batsmen all like pace on the ball and they might not be getting it here. I’ll take the visitors in this one.
