IPL 2019 – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Mumbai Indians Betting Preview

The second half of the double header in the Indian Premier League comes from Eden Gardens and is a huge match for the Kolkata Knight Riders when they play host to the table topping chasing Mumbai Indians on Sunday evening.

We are heading towards must-win territory for the Knight Riders here while the Mumbai Indians will secure a play-off berth with a win here and can then focus on finishing in the top two in the table so there is a fair bit on this one.

Kolkata Knight Riders

We all know by now that the Kolkata Knight Riders had a great start to the season and have hit the handbrake hard in recent times but the one thing that their positive beginning to the campaign ensured was that they are still in with a chance of being in the play-offs in a couple of weeks despite a sustained run without a victory.

If they are going to make it to the playoffs they must win their last three matches and hope that their run rate is going to be good enough. In order to win those games they need to stay true to themselves and with that in mind I was concerned that they abandoned their usual batting order last week. That gives off a hint of panic and when that sets in it can all go horribly wrong.

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians have had a brilliant start to the season but they now need to ensure that they don’t hit the buffers between now and the end of the campaign. When you get off to a start like the one they have had you should be focusing on making the top two at the end of the season and giving off two chances of making the final, which is the least the Indians will have expected to achieve at the outset.

It is hard to see them slipping away from here given the quality they have with the ball. If there ever is a concern with the Mumbai Indians it historically comes with the bat and they have been getting stronger and stronger in that department. The Mumbai Indians really do have everything needed to win this title so long as they don’t ease up subconsciously.

Team News

It is expected that Kolkata Knight Riders will be unchanged for this match but the Mumbai Indians have enough left handers at the top of the order that Kuldeep Yadav could be utilised for the home side here.

Mumbai Indians are expected to be unchanged although there is a chance that Evin Lewis makes way for Ben Cutting should they want another bowling option. That is unlikely on this ground though it has to be said.

Betting

There is no hiding the fact that the Mumbai Indians are very tempting in this match but it will come as no surprise to anyone that I won’t be betting on the match outcome. There are certain things you don’t take on at a ground like this and Andre Russell is without a doubt one of them. With that in mind I’m off to the side markets once again.

I like the sixes here. There are some huge hitters of a cricket ball on show in this match from Andre Russell, Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine and Carlos Brathwaite to Kieron Pollard, Evin Lewis, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma. Mumbai have a decent bowling attack but it can go round the park when the time is right and this Kolkata attack have given up runs all season. I expect everyone on show to combine for more than 15.5 sixes here.
