IPL 2019 – Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians Betting Preview

There is another double header of action in the Indian Premier League on Saturday and with matches beginning to run out in the regular campaign, it is looking like a huge weekend for most of the eight sides in the competition.

Two sides at opposite ends of the table meet to get the day underway when the Rajasthan Royals take on the Mumbai Indians with two big points on the line, especially for the home side who are running out of time to get their campaign firing.

Rajasthan Royals

The same issues that dogged the Rajasthan Royals last season are beginning to haunt them again this season. You have to put it down to poor recruitment overall. They have a number of players who are better suited to opening with little in the way of their middle order and spending so much on three individuals have left them exposed should any of them not fire like they can. As it is their two most expensive have offered little in the tournament.

You have to go back near enough two years for the last time Rajasthan had a settled batting line up that was balanced and this season things are coming to the fore. It will be interesting to see how they fare when their England contingent leave. While they will lack their qualities, they will at least have more available spots to try and find some balance within their side.

Mumbai Indians

If there is an ominous sign in this tournament it is how the Mumbai Indians are beginning to bubble up nicely and come to the boil. Usually it is a right scramble for Mumbai Indians to get into the top four but they currently sit second and will move to the top of the table should they win this contest. While these are heady days, there is no sign that Mumbai have peaked yet and if that isn’t already a concern for the rest then it should be.

The Mumbai Indians have a perfect combination for this format of the game. They have a solid opening pair, brutal power down the order and two death bowlers who are the envy of anything in the game. If there is a weakness it could come in the spin department but when their seamers are so reliable they only really need their spinners to create a bit of pressure.

Team News

Ben Stokes is set to return to the side here after recovering from illness. Ashton Turner did the square root of nothing in the previous game so he could be the man to miss out although Ish Sodhi didn’t go much better.

Mumbai Indians are unlikely to be making any changes after their pretty strong demolition of the Delhi Capitals last time out. The only question mark would be over Ben Cutting who bizarrely batted at three in the last match and did little else.

Betting

You’ve got to think that the way the two sides are going here that the Mumbai Indians deserve to be favourites in this match but they are a little short for me to back with complete comfort so rather than do that I’m going to head for one of the side markets in order to get my bet on this contest. It comes in the most sixes market.

These two tied in that department when they met in Mumbai recently but in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals have only hit 12 sixes in four matches, two in each of their last two and I’m beginning to think this pitch doesn’t suit their strengths. They might struggle to belt too many sixes out of this Mumbai Indians too. Mumbai’s batting line up is warming up nicely and with their entire top seven genuine six hitters and plenty of Rajasthan bowlers to feast on I’ve got to think the 4/5 on Mumbai to hit the most sixes is decent value in this one.
