IPL 2019 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kings XI Punjab Betting Preview

The final week of regular season matches in the Indian Premier League begins on the ground which will host the final in a couple of weeks when the Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the Kings XI Punjab for two big points.

There will be a number of big matches over the course of the week and they begin here where fourth place in the table is up for grabs for the winner. The loser here won’t be eliminated from the competition but their chances of reaching the play-offs will be a lot more difficult.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad have struggled for consistency throughout the course of the campaign. The reason for that has been obvious. Their middle order just hasn’t delivered the goods at all. They have seen one of their batsmen find form over the last week or so to offer them some hope but as a unit complete performances have been absent.

Quite often we see the Sunrisers delivering the goods off the back of a strong performance with the ball but they haven’t been quite as convincing in that department this season, although they haven’t been bad by any means. I think the standards they have set over the past two campaigns means that we look upon it as a poor season when it probably isn’t as bad as it feels.

Kings XI Punjab

Another side who haven’t been able to deliver consistency and string wins together is the Kings XI Punjab. Their issue is very much with their bowling attack, especially the seam department. It has been plundered for far too many runs for far too long but they don’t really have the resources to do a whole lot about it. They are crying out for these tired pitches to begin to take extreme amounts of turn.

That is beginning to have a negative impact on their batting too as they know they have to score a lot more than what would be considered a par score, and if the openers don’t get them off to a good start there isn’t a huge amount of power hitters to follow to get them up to the sort of totals they think they need. The good thing is they are one of few sides not drastically affected by players leaving.

Team News

Kane Williamson has replaced Jonny Bairstow in the side but that doesn’t really resolve the issues that they have in their middle order. I don’t see them changing personnel now but a switch in the batting order could be wise.

Kings XI Punjab always choose their side based on the conditions ahead of them. Hyderabad has tended to suit the seamers a little more which means we might well see Sam Curran in the side over someone like Mujeeb.

Betting

I’m finding this a tough match to call if I’m honest. Both sides come into the encounter in pretty ordinary form and both have their weaknesses for sure so working out who will win is not easy. It is simply going to be the best team on the day. Home advantage would make me lean towards the Sunrisers but that wouldn’t be with any confidence so I’ll go with one from the side markets.

I like the sixes here. The line is fairly low at 11.5. We don’t normally see a line like this when Chris Gayle is around and if he gets going he’ll take a good chunk of this total away. There have been a mix of sixes totals here. We’ve had them as high as 17 on a couple of occasions and as low as six although that was when the Sunrisers were in a true slump with the bat. I think they are slowly coming out of that though and I expect to see them hit a few sixes here against an attack that leaks runs. Kings XI have hit 11, 8 and 9 in terms of sixes in their last three matches so I’ve got to believe this line is too low. I’ll play the over.
