IPL 2020 – Qualifier 2: Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Tips and Betting Preview

There are two matches left in the Indian Premier League season and the first of those comes along on Sunday afternoon when the Delhi Capitals take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier where we find out who will meet the Mumbai Indians in the final.

These two sides go into this match in very different form with the Capitals only winning one of their last six matches while the Sunrisers look to be flying having won their last four. It will be interesting to see if this one goes with the form or if a shock is in store.

Delhi Capitals

There has to be a good deal of concern within the camp of the Delhi Capitals now you would think. They were cruising in the early part of the tournament but things started to go wrong around the time of the Rishabh Pant injury around halfway through the season and nothing has really improved in that regard since then. They have shown occasional glimpses or turning the tide but have never truly been able to do it. They will hope the knockout nature of this match inspired a performance from their team.

There are a couple of things that need massive improvement if they are going to win this match. The first of those is that their bowlers are going to need to start performing a lot better, especially at the back end of the innings, and the other thing is their openers or top three are going to need to lay a better platform than they have been recently. Delhi have the combination of leaking too many at the death and losing wickets at the start of their innings and that combo generally doesn’t win many matches.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

There is no doubting the form of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and it is no fluke either. They made a necessary change a few matches ago and the results have been good since then. They go into this match having won four on the trot but perhaps more importantly the last two of those were knockout matches like this one. It was actually the win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator which will have given them the real confidence though.

I say that because they turned what looked like an easy chase into an awkward one when they went nowhere to begin with and lost wickets. Earlier in the season they would have collapsed in a heap but on this occasion they showed they have a bit more about them and batted sensibly to get themselves over the line. The knowledge that they can win matches when their top order doesn’t fire could be very important to their confidence.

Previous Meetings

The Sunrisers will be feeling pretty good about things based on the previous meetings between these two sides because they won both of the regular season matches they played. They won the first match narrowly to the tune of 15 runs but the second match just over a week ago was an absolute blowout when the Sunrisers won by 88 runs on a day where the Delhi collapse became a reality rather than something which was just a matter of circumstances.

Betting

A few weeks ago I would have been picking the Delhi Capitals to win this match but it is so hard to back them now. They have won just one of their last six matches and even in that one they won they weren’t exactly watertight. We have to bet on right now though and at this time the Sunrisers Hyderabad are batting better and bowling better and while that doesn’t always translate to a win in this format, as it only ever takes one person to have a day out in this sphere and a match can be won in that moment, long-term it is what works.

Form is temporary that much is true but it is the Sunrisers Hyderabad who have all of that. The other reason for liking the Sunrisers is that while anyone can have a day out and win a match, the players that could do that for Delhi – the likes of Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw – are in absolutely no form at all. It isn’t though Sunrisers don’t have those players themselves though so I think it will be Dave Warner and his men heading back to Dubai to compete in the final.
