IPL 2022 – Delhi Capitals vs Lucknow Super Giants Tips and Betting Preview

There are another two matches in the Indian Premier League on Sunday and it is to the Wankhede we go for the first of them as the Delhi Capitals take on the Lucknow Super Giants in what is an important match for both teams.

The Capitals have watched on over the last few days as teams around them have been beaten and they have the opportunity to take advantage here. Lucknow can move up to second spot in the table with a win so this should be keenly fought.

Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals go into this match in sixth place in the table on eight points but a win here will move them up to fourth for a few hours. They might have won as many as they have lost this season but a couple of their victories have been very emphatic and as a result of that they have the best net run rate in the competition which could be handy if they are unable to escape the logjam in the middle of the table between now and the end of the league phase.

The Capitals arrive at the Wankhede having won two of their last three matches and it took something incredibly special from Jos Buttler to deny them in the other. They are not going to run into players and innings like him and his too often so we could easily be talking about three successive wins for the Delhi side. It might be that the most important thing in those games is we have seen the return of Mitch Marsh who should improve with every outing and the form of Rovman Powell is finally starting to arrive in the competition which is definitely not a bad thing.

Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants have managed to pick up six wins from their nine matches and will move into second spot in the table if they win this game. Their last two wins were very emphatic but they were only against the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings, two of the weaker sides in the competition, so how much we can use those as a form guide remains to be seen. They will argue they can only beat what is in front of them and they did so emphatically so it is hard to be too critical of them.

If there is a concern then it might come in the fact that despite having plenty of batting depth, it is only really their opening pair and Deepak Hooda who have got regular runs for them this season. That is fine if they can maintain their form until the end of the season but I’d like to see a few more delivering the goods with the bat just for peace of mind. The one area where there can be no complaints is with the ball. They have a strong attack with plenty of options.

Key Players

Quite often these matches are determined by the last few overs of each innings. We know Delhi can cope with the ball but they haven’t always got the job done with the bat so the form of Rovman Powell could be important. He has a couple of 30s in the last two matches and this ground definitely isn’t big enough for him if he gets going.

Ravi Bishnoi has a good record against a couple of these Delhi Capitals batters so his four overs might be important even though he hasn’t necessarily had the sort of tournament he would have wanted with the ball. This would be a good time to change that.

Betting

I’ve a feeling that the Delhi Capitals might just be rounding into a bit of form and as such I’m happy to take the 10/11 for them to win this match. I’m not saying Lucknow aren’t in form or are dropping away or anything but we saw last season how strong Delhi can be when they start firing on all cylinders and if this is the match that Mitch Marsh shows some form too then he, Dave Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell form a fearsome top five.

There are a lot of decent players in the Lucknow side with the bat but too many of them are underperforming. It is like after the top three they are all leaving it to each other and they need someone to take responsibility. After KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni is their next highest scorer but he hasn’t gone past 20 since the first game of the season. Delhi have an attack which is more than competitive and with more batters rounding into form I think they are the ones to be with here.
