The Indian Premier League continues with another match on Wednesday which comes from the Wankhede Stadium as two teams in the top three collide when the Gujarat Titans take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
These two teams have been in excellent form over the last couple of weeks but something will give in that department over the course of this match with only one of them coming away with the two points.
Gujarat Titans
This has been a remarkable debut season for the Gujarat Titans. They have won six of their seven matches although they won’t need telling that the team who beat them was the Sunrisers Hyderabad. There are a number of other matches that the Titans should have lost but they have become masters of the art of turning losing positions into winning ones. Whether they can keep doing that remains to be seen however.
One thing which would help the Titans win a little more comfortably would be for their top order to start scoring runs. At the minute they are relying on too few batters to score big and they can’t keep doing it forever. If the openers can come to the party and lay some platforms then in turn bigger scores will come and they will win much easier. They do have the bowlers to get them out of the mess but even they won’t be able to do it all the time.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
After dropping their opening two matches, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have won their last five contests and are really on a roll at the minute. They have gone from looking like cannon fodder to not just winning matches but absolutely mullering opponents and have won by such margins that their run rate, which was horrendous after a huge opening loss, is now the second best in the competition and worth another point in effect.
We have known all season that the Sunrisers have the bowlers to cope with most teams even allowing for the fact that Rashid Khan left and will be playing for the opposition here. We were less sure about the batting and while it took a couple of matches to get up to speed, the longer this competition goes on the better they are getting in that department as well. You sense they could be tough to stop over the second half of the campaign.

Key Players
Given that Hardik Pandya isn’t bowling at the minute the key player for the Gujarat Titans could well be the former Sunrisers Hyderabad star Rashid Khan. He will always be economical but if he can take wickets too he’ll have his team ahead of any game.
The pitch at the Wankhede is never short of pace and bounce so Umran Malik could be a key man for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has serious wheels on him and if he can shoot the Gujarat top order out it will open the game up.
Betting
I think the Sunrisers Hyderabad are going to be tough to stop here. They have a team where both units are in good form whereas you can only really say that the bowlers are delivering the goods for the Gujarat Titans, aside from the odd individual effort with the bat here and there. The Sunrisers also have the knowledge that they have beaten the Titans this season and they didn’t just beat them, they won by eight wickets in pretty emphatic fashion.
This is going to be a closer match than their first meeting I think. The odds would suggest that and I don’t think that they are wrong but more Sunrisers players are in form particularly in the areas where you want more players in form and I think that might be the overall difference. The other positive for the Sunrisers is that most of their batters will know Rashid Khan from their time against him in the nets. I think when you put it all together the even money on the Sunrisers looks the way to play this one.
