IPL 2022 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match in the Indian Premier League on Monday and it comes from the DY Patil Stadium as the Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the Lucknow Super Giants in a match which might be a defining one for both teams.

The Sunrisers are yet to get off the mark for their season but this will be only their second match whereas the Super Giants have a win and a loss from the two matches that they have played and will be looking to keep their ledger in the positive here.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

It might be a little early in a season to have major concerns over a team after just the one game but there is certainly a case to be made for the doubts that were around the Sunrisers Hyderabad are growing. They weren’t just beaten in their opening match, they were given a good hiding and actually the score was probably closer than the match actually was which isn’t a good thing when you consider they lost it by 61 runs.

Their bowling fell apart in the middle of the innings after actually starting fairly well and they were done with the bat inside the first three or four overs. They managed to protect their net run rate as best as they could but they are going to need to be a whole lot better in all departments if they are going to be a factor this season. They lost a lot of talent in the off season and you wonder where they have strengthened because on the evidence of their first match it was hard to see.

Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants probably should be two from two this season but like a lot of teams this season they were unable to stem the flow of runs in the dewy conditions in their opening game against the Gujarat Titans. To their credit though they didn’t dwell on that and got right back on it and earned their first win in the competition when they chased down more than 200 in fine style against the Chennai Super Kings last time out.

I guess they will be wanting more from their bowlers and the addition of Jason Holder to their ranks from here on in should certainly help with that. On the face of it they have a decent bowling attack so we should expect that department to come good. They have shown that they can definitely deliver the goods with the bat and that is despite KL Rahul still getting up to full speed. That means there is more to come which is never a bad thing.

Key Players

You would imagine if the Sunrisers Hyderabad don’t get stuck in early with the ball this could be a long evening for them so the new ball spell of Bhuvneshwar Kumar is going to be key. The balls he bowled in that first game were good but overstepping cost him. He needs to be at his best here.

Evin Lewis showed why he is one of the most feared batters in the T20 leagues in the last game. He is playing an unfamiliar role coming in at three or four but that might work nicely for the Super Giants here because on the evidence of the opening game the Sunrisers bowling gets weaker the longer the innings goes on.

Betting

It is hard to bet on a lot of markets here because we don’t know exactly how the Sunrisers are going to play. If they are as bad as they were in their opening match then they will be wiped out again but if they have found something in defeat then they could be a little more competitive. The one thing we do know is both of these attacks have question marks over them even though on paper the Lucknow one looks pretty good.

With all that in mind, I’ll head to the player performances for a bet on this contest. The line I like comes in the form of Deepak Hooda who is contributing in all three facets for the Lucknow Super Giants. He already has a 50 in the tournament and we’ve seen that the latter stages of the Sunrisers bowling effort isn’t guaranteed to cause any problems. This Sunrisers batting looks a little thing to me in terms of out and out batting so Hooda might well come on and snap up a wicket. He has the wicket of Matthew Wade in this tournament already and he has a catch to his name too. His performance line is 24.5 and I think that is well within his compass.
