IPL 2023 – Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Tips and Betting Preview

Two of the five teams on 10 points in the Indian Premier League will continue their IPL 2023 campaign on Tuesday when the Mumbai Indians play host to the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium.

These two teams begin the day in eighth and sixth respectively but the winner here will come out in third spot and will do wonders for their chances to make the final stage of the competition. The losers will be swimming against the tide.

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians have had a bit of an inconsistent campaign but that is nothing new. We are used to this franchise really delivering the goods when the business end of the season comes along and if they are going to push for the title then they are going to need to do that again. Mumbai have four regular season matches left and they are probably going to need to win three of them if they are going to extend their campaign.

In order to make that more of a reality, their bowlers need to come to the party. They have a fearsome batting unit but the differential between the best of their batting and the best of their bowling has been too large and that gap needs to close. The one positive thing for the Indians is that this Wankhede ground very much plays to their strengths. The form of the captain has been an issue and if he can come good when it matters that would help too.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have also been an inconsistent bunch this season. You can kind of understand that given how hard the Chinnaswamy is to defend. They have five wins and five defeats to their name but they have a better net run rate than the Mumbai Indians so they are in a slightly better place of the two sides going into this one. They are going to need to win three of their last four if they are going to extend their season though.

The Royal Challengers are very strong in their top four but they can be a little vulnerable below that in the batting department and sometimes that can deny them the sort of score we should expect from them. A bigger concern is that their bowling can sometimes be got at, especially the longer that the innings goes on. That might be a real issue here with Mumbai getting more and more brutal the longer their batting effort goes on.

Key Players

Suryakumar Yadav is beginning to show his best form at the right part of the season for the Mumbai Indians and with the Bangalore bowling weakening in the middle to latter overs this could be the day he goes very big.

You would imagine that the Royal Challengers Bangalore team are going to need to score big to win this match and if that is to happen then Glenn Maxwell is probably going to need to offer up the sort of effort he is capable of.

Betting

The sixes let me down on Monday but I’m nothing if not a glutton for punishment so I am going to go in that direction again on Tuesday. The sixes line for this match is 15.5 and I think that is well within the compass of these two sides. The Mumbai Indians are rounding into a really big hitting team, one which could yet have even more to come should Rohit Sharma come good, which you would imagine he will do at some point given the class act that he is.

The Wankhede is a ground where the ball flies a long way, where the wicket is usually very strong and where there is little to nothing in it for the bowlers. The last two matches on this ground have seen both teams score more than 200 and in those contests there have been 25 and 22 sixes and you would suggest that Bangalore can more than hold their own in the six hitting department. I expect to see this 15.5 line comfortably covered.
