Ireland vs India – 2nd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

India conclude their brief tour of Ireland on Tuesday when the two sides meet in the second T20 international before the tourists make the short trip for a tasty white ball series against England next month.

The first game of the series was rain affected which India came out on top in. Both teams will be hoping that the rain stays away and they get a full contest to continue their preparation for the T20 World Cup later in the year.

Ireland

Ireland were fairly competitive in the opening game of the series but couldn’t quite get on top of the Indians enough to really challenge them. They had a terrible start to the match, although you could understand that with all the hanging around they had to do while the rain fell. They could have fallen away completely but to their credit they stuck a score on the board and were able to make inroads while defending it but the toss always looked a bad one to lose.

I would imagine without the need for speed in their batting if this match is the full 20 overs that their top order will be able to settle into the game a little more and build a better total. We certainly saw in that first game that if Ireland can put a decent enough score on the board that their bowlers can cause a few issues in these conditions even if they are going to go for some runs at the same time. Ireland do bat deep so they have it in them to do that.

India

We know that this is a second string India side in a lot of places with the main men in Birmingham preparing for the Test match but there are still potential spots in the T20 World Cup squad at stake here, especially for the fast bowlers which you would think India would want a decent battery of given the wickets in Australia. It is hard to say that any of those we don’t already know about did much to stake a place in the opening game, although again conditions do need to be taken into account.

A number of India bowlers were very expensive in that first game and while that is probably the nature of the game in a 12 over slog, they could probably allow for the runs if they were threatening wickets but India only took four wickets and one of them went to spin. That will have disappointed them as will the fact that they lost three wickets in a routine chase when a couple of players got starts but didn’t see the innings through to its conclusion.

Team News

Ireland will probably want to see the team they selected in the opening game play over a 20 over contest but should they look to change anything then you would imagine Curtis Campher could be one to come into the XI.

India gave Umran Malik a go in the first game of the series and you would imagine they will want to look at Arshdeep Singh in this game. Ruturaj Gaikwad slid down the order in the first game and Rahul Tripathi could come in for him. Sanju Samson is another waiting in the wings.

Betting

I think we saw enough in that first game to suggest that this match can be a high scoring one. The wicket looked great for batting and when you consider there were a dozen sixes in the 21 overs that was bowled the evidence was there that these boundaries are there to be attacked. Considering all the rain that was around the outfield wasn’t too slow and that makes me think that we could be in for a higher scoring game than the run line would suggest.

There is rain around in the morning of the match but it is expected to clear up before the start of play so that might just mean that the ball comes onto the bat a little better. The line here is 305.5 so we are looking for 153 runs from both sides which feels achievable, although if India bat first and do it sensibly you would expect them to go way beyond that number. I would imagine India will rotate their bowlers so this won’t be a first choice attack that Ireland face so I like the over in runs here.
