LV County Championship 2022 – Monday 12th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There are three rounds of action left in the LV County Championship season and yet there is still so much to be determined. It all begins with a set of matches which begin on Monday where everything is under the spotlight.

Over the course of the week the Division One title race and relegation picture could get a little clearer, as could the race for promotion in Division Two. Once again we are reduced to the live streams to follow these matches.

Division One

All eyes will be on Wantage Road this week where the leaders for so much of the season are in action. Surrey actually watched on as Hampshire overtook them last week and they get the chance to reply in kind when they head to take on Northamptonshire. That isn’t the only big clash this week as the current champions Warwickshire play host to Somerset with this game being between the two teams either side of the relegation line. Warwickshire actually occupy the relegation spot and really need to win here. The other match sees Yorkshire welcoming Essex to Headingley in a match which sees both teams playing for little.

Division Two

It is a big week in the second division as well as the race for promotion takes centre stage at Lord’s. Middlesex have been in the top two all season and in line for promotion but they dropped to fourth last week and host the side who took their spot in the table in Glamorgan. A Glamorgan win will leave them needing just a few points to seal Division One cricket next season while Middlesex will regain control of their own destiny with a win of their own. The bottom four meet in the other two matches where playing out time on the season is all that is on the line. Sussex host Worcestershire at Hove while Leicestershire welcome Durham to Grace Road.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet this week and it comes in that huge clash in the second division between Middlesex and Glamorgan where the momentum the visitors have gives them the edge for me. This will be the first time Middlesex have played red ball cricket in the better part of six weeks and at all for a fortnight so they are entitled to be a little rusty at the format and might be susceptible to a Glamorgan side who have been active having played last week.

The other thing I like about Glamorgan here is that they have both overseas players available and in Shubman Gill and Ajaz Patel they have a couple of good ones too. Middlesex will be missing Umesh Yadav for this one which could be significant. For all Middlesex have only just dropped out of the top two they have been clinging on for a while and their form hasn’t been great. They have failed to win any of their last five matches since the initial block of Championship cricket and that includes draws with lowly Durham and Sussex. These two are going in opposite directions this season so the 11/10 on an away win looks too big to me here.
