LV County Championship 2022 – Monday 5th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

After a month off for The Hundred and the majority of the Royal London One Day Cup, the LV County Championship returns on Monday for the final month of what is shaping up to be a compelling season.

There is so much at stake in both divisions heading into the week which should make for some exciting and competitive cricket although to be able to watch any of it we need to load up the live streams offered by the counties.

Division One

The leaders Surrey are not in action in Division One this week which means the two chasers have the chance to close in and strengthen their title chances. Hampshire are the team who begin the week in second place and they welcome Northamptonshire to the Ageas Bowl. Lancashire are also at home when they host rivals Yorkshire in the final Roses clash of the season. It isn’t just at the top of the table where there is interest this week. There is a seriously good race to avoid the drop taking place too and the bottom two meet at Taunton when Somerset welcome Gloucestershire. Kent begin the week just five points above the drop and they could really do with a win when they welcome Essex to Canterbury.

Division Two

The race for promotion is also in the spotlight this week and it is turning into quite some race. It would be something close to a choke if Nottinghamshire don’t get promoted from the position they are in and they host rock bottom Leicestershire with the home side looking to move to within a win of a return to the top flight. Below them things are very interesting and with second placed Middlesex not in action this week third placed Glamorgan and fourth placed Derbyshire have the chance to pounce. Glamorgan host a Worcestershire side who might not have given up hopes of promotion themselves in Cardiff while Derbyshire welcome a Durham side who aren’t really going anywhere to Derby.

Betting

I fear a little bit for Essex when they head to Canterbury to take on Kent. They will obviously be missing Simon Harmer for this match and he has 46 wickets this season, 20 more than any other Essex bowler. That is a huge void for someone to make up for and they don’t have an overseas player for this competition without Harmer either. They have a strong batting unit but there might be a few heavy legs with four of their players playing in The Hundred finals over the weekend.

Kent head into this match with everything to play for given that they are anything but safe this season and their players should be full of confidence. With the exception of Daniel Bell-Drummond, all their players who were at The Hundred played in the tournament and performed well in the main and those who weren’t there have made the 50 over final. They are different formats to this but winning matches breeds confidence regardless of the format. Kent might be as strong as they’ve been all season. In an ideal world they would want Zak Crawley but their top six are all going well and if they can get stuck in with the new ball this is a match that certainly isn’t beyond them.

Tips

Back Kent to beat Essex for a 3/10 stake at 2.10 with William Hill
