LV= County Championship 2023 – Thursday 27th April Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The LV= County Championship continues on Thursday when matches take place in both divisions as we already head to the end of the opening quarter of what looks like being two wide open leagues with plenty of twists and turns on the horizon.

We were meant to have a televised game this week but that isn’t going to materialise now that the IPL is back on Sky so if you have a bet or want to watch any of the matches then you’ll need to tune into the county live streams.

Division One

There are two matches in Division One this week and the pick of the two comes from Edgbaston where the last two winners of the title collide when the 2021 winners Warwickshire host the reigning champions Surrey in what should be a cracking game of cricket. The other match sees two sides who have made up and down starts to their season meeting at Lord’s where Middlesex and Kent will go in search of a second win of their campaign at this early stage.

Division Two

Three matches take place in Division Two this week and with second placed Worcestershire not on show the leaders Durham have the chance to kick clear when they welcome the early bottom team Derbyshire to Chester-le-Street. Leicestershire will look to take advantage of Worcestershire not playing to move up from third to at least second when Glamorgan visit Grace Road. The other match sees Gloucestershire hosting a Sussex side, who are a week away from having Steve Smith in their ranks, at Bristol.

Betting

Kent have a win, a defeat and a draw to their name so far this season but I think they have more upside to them than Middlesex. Middlesex won last week against Nottinghamshire but I’m not massively sure that is a hugely impressive result. Middlesex still haven’t scored 300 in an innings this season and were fortunate to be dangled a carrot last week with Nottinghamshire declaring and leaving them 250 in 40 overs, which always felt like it was something they could chase.

There are still concerns over the top order of Middlesex. In the first two weeks of the season they were in shambolic form and while they went better last week, I’m still to be convinced. Kent certainly don’t have that problem. They have two of the best openers in the country and a very good middle order backing them up. They might lack a real potent leader of their attack but they have an attack which is difficult to score quickly against and if they can rip into the Middlesex top order I think the 6/5 on them winning could be a big price.
