Ahead of the Made in Denmark tournament starting on Thursday there is still time to look at a couple of side markets where there could be a bit of value.
This isn’t a major tournament so the side markets aren’t as regular as the bigger ones but luckily enough a couple of the usual markets offer some good value this week for us to take advantage of.
There aren’t many international players at the head of the outright market but there are 24 of them in the field and that makes for quite a tightly packed Top Rest of the World book.
Peter Uihlein is the favourite in this market but he is a little short at 4/1 particularly as his form isn’t that great but on the bright side for him he does have form over links courses and that could be important. I’m after value here though and he doesn’t really offer it.
Mentions should be made for the likes of Richard Green, Hennie Otto, Darren Fichardt and indeed S S P Chowrasia who was actually in the top 10 here last year but I think value could be seen better elsewhere.
There appears to be a little bit of a correlation between the Crans-sur-Sierre course which hosts the Omega European Masters and this one and with that in mind it could pay to take the 2014 champion of that tournament David Lipsky here.
In truth this field isn’t going to take a whole lot of beating so given that he goes well in the Swiss Alps the 12/1 on him being the top international player this week could be big.
There are more players in the Top Englishman market but once again the depth of quality isn’t really there. Matthew Fitzpatrick is a 4/1 favourite in this market and that is acceptable after his good run in the Omega Masters a few weeks ago but he wasn’t as good in the Matchplay which puts me off the short price.
At various times in a season you’ll see the likes of Robert Rock, David Horsey, Graeme Storm and Tom Lewis on a leaderboard but I’m not convinced it’ll be this week. John Parry and Andrew Johnston are a couple of names I looked at but I think someone else is worth backing.
Chris Paisley has enjoyed a decent enough start to his European Tour career. He was third in a fairly strong field in the BMW International Open in Germany and he was also in the top 15 in the Nordea Masters. Both results give me the belief he can do well here, as does his top 20 in Madeira on his last ET outing.
Paisley’s putting stats are really good and with this course not being the longest from tee to green his putting could make a difference. At 25/1 he looks a really big price in this market.
Back D.Lipsky Top Rest of the World Player (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 13.00 with Stan James (1/4 1-4)
Back C.Paisley Top Englishman (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 26.00 with Coral (1/4 1-4)
