The Major League Cricket competition resumes after a travel day when the MLC 2025 heads to Florida for the first time in the history of the tournament on Tuesday for the clash between the Seattle Orcas and the San Francisco Unicorns.
This is a big match for the Orcas in particular. They ended the Dallas leg of the competition positively and can really strengthen their playoff claims with a win here. San Francisco will be in the finals but they want a top two finish.
Seattle Orcas
You have to give the Seattle Orcas plenty of credit. After five matches in this tournament they were going absolutely nowhere. They looked like a poor side who were devoid of ideas and you couldn’t really see where their next win was coming from. To their credit though they made a change of captaincy, whether that was voluntary or a decision made by the hierarchy, and since then they have played twice and won both matches and suddenly they sit in the top four.
They are still vulnerable in that fourth spot because their opening five losses were so heavy that their net run rate is a negative for them but a win here will move them four points clear of MI New York and Los Angeles Knight Riders who would only have three matches left to catch them. The Seattle batting got them over the line in those two wins over the weekend and that bodes well here in Florida. If their bowling joins the party they could be unlikely dangers.
San Francisco Unicorns
The San Francisco Unicorns have led the way in the table since the opening match of the tournament but there have just been one or two signs that the pacesetting might be getting to them. They are still top of the table but they were well beaten in their last match and they have now been caught on points by the Washington Freedom and have the Texas Super Kings just two points behind. That might be no bad thing as it will give them the incentive and further motivation to continue to perform in order to get that top two finish.
The Unicorns bowling hasn’t been brilliant this season so they are going to need that batting unit to find their straps again. There is a chance that it was purely the wickets in Dallas tiring which is why they put up their worst two batting showings of the campaign recently. If that is the case then they are going to have a fresh pitch to attack here and you would expect their batting to come back to the party. The Unicorns could be dangerous again here.

Key Players
Shimron Hetmyer has been brilliant for the Seattle Orcas in the two wins they have come up with recently. He fired 97* and 64* and led his team over the line and the men in green will be hoping for another special knock from him.
Jake Fraser-McGurk lit up the Oakland leg of this tournament and showed some good things in the early part of the Dallas offering but he went quiet and the Unicorns will be hoping that a fresh pitch brings out his brutal best once again.
Betting
This will be the first time that Major League Cricket has been played here in Florida but we have had some T20 internationals here in the past and they have generally been high scoring. This isn’t the biggest ground known to man and the pitches are usually good here and you would certainly imagine that latter point would be the case here because the ground will want to showcase itself well and ensure that the tournament comes back here and potentially has a Florida team should the event ever expand.
That makes me think that the 48.5 boundaries line is a touch on the low side here. The theme of this tournament has been for the boundaries to flow and that has certainly been the case in the San Francisco Unicorns matches this term and indeed the Seattle ones in the last couple of games. There is nothing in either of these bowling units to slow down the flow of runs which makes me think that we are going to open up in Florida in much the same way as we’ve left off in the two previous venues.
