The Major League Cricket season continues on Monday night with just the one match when the Oakland Coliseum is once again the venue for the MLC 2025 clash between the Seattle Orcas and the Texas Super Kings.
The Super Kings have made a perfect start to their season and will be looking to consolidate that with a third win from three here while Seattle will be out to get their first win of the new campaign at the second time of asking.
Seattle Orcas
The Seattle Orcas made a bit of an ominous start to their campaign on Saturday night when they were resoundingly beaten by the Washington Freedom. When you consider how well the Freedom went last term that wasn’t necessarily a terrible result on its own but following on from a season where the Orcas were thoroughly disappointed it wasn’t the tone that they would have wanted to set and you get the impression that this is a team that needs a win on the board quickly.
They could do with it coming here because already they are under pressure with their net run rate such is the emphatic margin that they were beaten by in their opening game. If that is going to happen then the Orcas really need their batting to come to the fore here. They are the only team who have batted first so far who haven’t made 150 in their innings and on this ground they need a lot more runs than that to be on the safe side. Their bowling wouldn’t have got much confidence from that opening game either.
Texas Super Kings
The Texas Super Kings looked like a competitive side going into the tournament without perhaps the razzle dazzle that some of the other teams have in their ranks, but they have started like a house on fire with two wins from two. There might have been a little fortune in the way that their opening win came about but there was certainly no luck involved in their second win which came along on Sunday afternoon. It does mean that they are having to back up a performance the day after their last one which isn’t easy but the Super Kings look in good shape.
You wouldn’t say that the Super Kings have been at their best with the bat yet but they have scored 180 and more in both of their matches and that is something that bodes very well for them. They are the sort of team who might not need the explosive scores to win matches because they have an elite spinner in their ranks not to mention one of the best seamers in the competition. They are already functioning pretty well as a team.

Key Players
Kyle Mayers is going to open the batting for the Seattle Orcas and they could really do with his explosive best setting the tone for a side clearly devoid of confidence already. They could do with him bowling some tidy overs with the new ball too.
Daryl Mitchell hasn’t fired like we know that he can with the bat yet, although the longer his innings went on against the Los Angeles Knight Riders on Sunday the better he looked. He has been dynamic in the field though and is a game changer for the Super Kings.
Betting
Regular readers will know that I’m no fan of backing teams who are playing the following day after their last game but it is a little different in this competition because there is no travelling involved and actually Texas Super Kings played the day game on Sunday so they have had the extra hours to recover and come back to go again. I certainly think that they are a better team than the Seattle Orcas and I don’t think there is any disputing that so I’m happy to take the Super Kings here.
Texas look a good all-round unit with most of their top six having contributed in the tournament already while all of their bowlers have done their job at some point in the competition as well. Seattle look like a team of individuals and to be fair, if one or two of those have a night out then they could beat any team, but at the same time this is a franchise who in their last nine games of cricket have won just once. Their bowling just got absolutely carted and if an attack is going to go the distance then of the two it looks more likely to be theirs. I’ll go with the Super Kings here.
