The Major League Cricket campaign continues in Florida on Wednesday night as we approach the home straight of the regular season in the MLC 2025 term as the Washington Freedom take on the Texas Super Kings.
These two teams are firmly ensconced in the top three in the table but both will want to finish the season in the top two to get the two chances to make the final that come with it and this is a huge match for both in that regard.
Washington Freedom
The defending champions Washington Freedom go into this match off the back of six successive wins and if they can make if seven on the spin then they are going to end the night on top of the table and close to having their top two finish secured. They would need a maximum of one win from their final two matches to give themselves a boost when it comes to making a successful defence of the title and right now it looks like it will take a good team to stop them.
The Freedom are batting with the sort of attitude that matches up to their name and that imposes themselves on the opposition straight away and the longer the games have gone at the same venue the more their bowlers have come to the party. It was that bowling attack which won them the tournament last year so it is certainly no bad thing that they are coming good again. With a power packed batting unit, things are clicking into place for Washington.
Texas Super Kings
The Washington Freedom aren’t the only team arriving into this match in decent form though. The Texas Super Kings have won their last two matches and five out of their seven in total and their reward for that position is that if they come out on top in this one they will move into the top two and will be in control of their destiny for a lofty finish with just two matches remaining in the regular season. A defeat doesn’t end those hopes but they will need results to go in their favour.
The Super Kings have the ideal balance at the minute of a batting line up which is piling the runs on the board and a bowling unit which aren’t going around the park. They are one of few teams in this competition that you would trust to defend a score so that makes them dangerous as they are not reliant on the outcome of the toss to have the best chance of winning. You need to get into this Texas side early else they can take the game away from you.

Key Players
If you are to get on top of this Texas Super Kings side then you have to do it early so Mitch Owen is going to be a key player for the Washington Freedom. His bowling could be handy after five wickets last time out too.
Donovan Ferreira is becoming a more and more important player for the Texas Super Kings with every match. He can smack the ball out of the park at will but when the pitches turn he can be useful with his spin bowling.
Betting
It is always dangerous to take the under on a run line in a match between two sides who both scored 220 in the reverse match that the two sides played out but things are a littler different here in Florida. I did expect some roads to be produced with this being the first time that Major League Cricket has been in this part of the country but that wasn’t the case in the opening game and the one thing that really was noticeable was how slow the outfield was.
That is in contrast to the other two grounds where the pitches were flat and did nothing and the ball came onto the bat and anything that beat the outfield in Oakland and in Dallas by and large went to the boundaries. The slower outfield here means that the batters aren’t going to get quite as much value for their shots and then we have to consider that both of these bowling attacks are suited to pitches where the ball doesn’t naturally come onto the bat. This hasn’t been a high scoring ground in the last 12 months or so and it wasn’t in the first game here. I think the 374.5 run line is a little too high.
