There are two days left of group action in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and the first of those comes along on Sunday when we have a full set of matches as the race for the qualifying spots intensifies on a huge day of cricket.
There is a double header in The Hundred on Sunday though which means that there are no TV offerings among the eight games so if you have a bet and want to follow it then you’ll need to fire up one of the live streams offered by the home county.
Group A
Somerset are in pole position heading into the Sunday action. The current Vitality Blast champions know that if they win their last two matches they will skip the quarter finals and head straight into the semi-finals. The first of those comes from Lord’s where a Middlesex side, who probably need to win their last two to go through, await them. The big match in this group comes from New Road though where second placed Worcestershire host third placed Hampshire. Both sides have their destiny in their own hands but only the winners will keep it that way. Kent and Durham need to win their last two and hope results go their way for them to make it through so their meeting in Canterbury is basically a knockout match. The bottom two meet in the other game as Northamptonshire host Lancashire.

Group B
Glamorgan currently lead the way in Group B with two matches to go and they will be looking to maintain that position when they go to Grace Road to take on the current champions Leicestershire, who will move into a qualifying place with a match to go if they win. Warwickshire start the day behind Glamorgan on just net run rate and on paper they have the easier of the tasks as they have a home match. That is against a Yorkshire side who need to win their last two matches and hope that it is good enough. Nottinghamshire saw their qualifying hopes take a massive dent on Friday and they’ll be looking to restore their hopes when they host Essex at Trent Bridge while at Hove, Sussex and Surrey will continue to play out their campaign.
Betting
Northamptonshire haven’t had the competition that they would have wanted but I’m still surprised that they are the outsiders to get the better of Lancashire who are yet to win a game in the tournament so far. Northants have only won one of their six matches but they let a couple of other teams off the hook. They had Derbyshire and Hampshire where they wanted them earlier in the competition but couldn’t quite get the job done but the only time they have really been battered was against Somerset last time out but they are controlling the competition at the minute.
Lancashire haven’t just lost matches in this tournament. Four of their six have been batterings. They have lost those matches by 57 runs, nine wickets with more than 30 overs left, eight wickets with 55 balls left and 71 runs. There were a couple of closer defeats but against weaker sides in Kent and Middlesex. I think Northamptonshire are better than their record suggests but they have been found out by the teams with real depth in their side. Lancashire don’t have that depth and I expect Northamptonshire to pick up a confidence boosting win here.
