Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024 – Wednesday 7th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Metro Bank One Day Cup continues on Wednesday when four more matches take place as we continue to head towards the end of the group phase of the competition and get closer to finding out who will progress to the knockout stages.

Once again, The Hundred gets the TV treatment over the course of the day so as has been the case throughout this tournament, if you have a bet on a match and want to watch its progress you will need the live stream that the home county provides.

Group A

Three of the four matches come in a very intriguing Group A on Wednesday with the top four all in action. Two of them meet at the Utilita Bowl when the leaders Derbyshire make the trip to Southampton to take on a Hampshire side who are tough nuts to crack. Worcestershire are in second spot in the group and they’ll be looking to consolidate their position if not improve on it when they welcome Kent to New Road. The other match in the group sees third placed Somerset looking to keep their charge for a quarter final spot intact when they make the trip to Northampton to take on Northamptonshire in a rehearsal of the T20 Blast quarter final next month.

Group B

We have just the one match in Group B on Wednesday ahead of the meeting of the top two in this section on Thursday. The Wednesday action comes from Bristol and it is a huge match for Gloucestershire who really have to win if they are going to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive. They already need the odd result to go their way but have to beat Sussex to keep their chances of a quarter final spot alive. Sussex have lost all five of their matches and can’t progress to the knockout stages.

Betting

Worcestershire saw their unbeaten start to the competition go in their previous match but I think they can get back on track when they entertain a Kent side who I don’t think are much cop really. Kent flattered to deceive in the Vitality Blast and when you consider that they have lost the likes of Daniel Bell-Drummond, Tawanda Muyeye and Sam Billings to The Hundred they were never going to be any better for this competition.

That is highlighted in the fact that they have been bowled out in three of their four matches and were 170/6 and I never like a team who aren’t scoring runs. That loss last time out for Worcestershire was a weird one but it came when they chose to rest Jack Home who took six wickets in a good win over the table toppers Derbyshire the game before. He is back here and Worcestershire, while they were bowled out at Northampton at the weekend, have put a couple of decent scores on the board. They just look a better side in this and I think they’ll win this one accordingly.
