MLS 2017 – Houston Dynamo vs Vancouver Whitecaps Betting Preview

The Friday night match in the MLS this week comes from Houston as the Houston Dynamo take on the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Western Conference clash. With the remainder of the fixtures taking place on Saturday and Sunday there is a chance for both these sides to steal a march on the rest.

Houston Dynamo

A win for the home side in this match will move them to the top of the Western Conference as they bid to get back into the play-offs after a couple of lean seasons. Although there is every chance they would be overtaken later in the weekend the sheer fact they are so close to the top of the table is encouraging for them.

Their success this season has been very much down to their home form. This will be their seventh match at home in this campaign and so far they have only dropped two points here so they really enjoy playing at home. They average just under three goals a game here too which makes them a formidable force.

Vancouver Whitecaps

It was a tough start to the season for the Vancouver Whitecaps but out of nowhere they have won three of their last four matches, the last two of which have been on the road. There is no doubt that will bring them plenty of confidence heading into this match and that could well make them dangerous.

Their critics might pull apart that recent form though in that those two away wins were in Montreal and Colorado and neither of those sides are pulling up any trees this season so this will be the biggest test of their recent form. In saying that you can’t argue with winning momentum whoever it is against.

Team News

Houston could be without forward Erick Torres who is struggling with concussion. He is rated as probable to play though. George Malki and Eric Alexander are definitely out.

Vancouver are carrying a lot of injuries at the minute which would be a concern. Erik Hurtado, Yordy Reyna, Marco Bustos and David Edgar are all out while Brek Shea is questionable once again.

Betting

It is hard to ignore the form of the Houston Dynamo at home this season and because of that I would have fancied them to win this match without the Vancouver injuries but given all of those absences I think the home side have to be backed here.

They slipped up against the Minnesota United from 2-0 up earlier in the campaign but had they held on to that lead like they should have done then they would be perfect at home. That was a wake up call to never take their foot off the gas and I expect them to get in front of Vancouver here and ram home the advantage.
