MLS 2017 – Real Salt Lake vs Orlando City Betting Preview

There is one MLS game on Friday night to get the weekend under way and it sees two sides struggling for the form meeting when Real Salt Lake host Orlando City in a cross-Conference battle.

Real Salt Lake have fallen away from the play-off pack in the Western Conference so really need a win here to get back amongst it while Orlando City have faded away after a strong beginning to the campaign.

Real Salt Lake

Only the Colorado Rapids sit below Real Salt Lake heading into the weekend and they have two games in hand and are only one point behind so it is imperative for the home side that they pick up the win here. To be fair to them they are in good touch at home at the minute as they have won their last three at the Rio Tinto Stadium.

Scoring goals has been an issue for RSL this season. Only Colorado and DC United have fewer than their 17 goals in the MLS and that is something they are going to need to improve on if they are to push for the top six come the postseason. They have scored in their last five matches though so they might have addressed that.

Orlando City

After what was a bright beginning to the campaign for Orlando City they have now won just one of their last 10 matches and that was only against DC United which isn’t the best form guide in the world. They have drawn five times in that run but have taken a couple of heavy beatings on the road too.

Scoring goals has become an issue in recent times with just six goals in their last seven matches so they will be pleased that Cyle Larin has passed his DUI assessment and is back for them from now on. If they can start finding goals they should be able to maintain a play-off spot at the very least from here.

Team News

Albert Rusnak is expected to miss this match as he hasn’t returned from international duty yet. Chad Barrett is definitely out for the home side while Demar Phillips is questionable for them with a hamstring injury.

With Cyle Larin now through his DUI assessment and ready to return Orlando City have a full squad to choose from for this match.

Betting

If I am honest Real Salt Lake might be a touch on the short side here but I do think they will win the game. They have suddenly found a bit of a groove at home this season with three wins on the bounce while Orlando are in a right slump.

They have only won one of their last ten and go into this match off the back of a real shellacking at Chicago last weekend. Cyle Larin will give them a boost but RSL have only conceded one at home in their last three matches there despite playing some confident sides in New York City and Minnesota. I fancy the home side to sneak another win here.
