MLS 2017 – Saturday 22nd April Matches Betting Preview

The majority of the latest round of matches in Major League Soccer takes place on Saturday as the MLS season continues. In total we have seven fixtures to enjoy on Saturday night with a couple of them live on TV in the UK.

The top end of both conferences are in the spotlight in the seven games on Saturday so we should be in for a high quality night of football.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows (UK kick off time in brackets)

Philadelphia Union vs Montreal Impact (18.00)

Houston Dynamo vs San Jose Earthquakes (20.55)

Portland Timbers vs Vancouver Whitecaps (21.00)

New England Revolution vs DC United (00.30)

New York Red Bulls vs Columbus Crew (00.30)

FC Dallas vs Sporting Kansas City (01.00)

Real Salt Lake vs Atlanta United (02.30)

Big Matches

Portland Timbers lead the Western Conference and they will be out to maintain that lead when they take on rivals Vancouver Whitecaps while in the East Columbus Crew will be looking to extend their advantage at the top when they face one of the dangers for the title in New York Red Bulls. Philadelphia Union’s match with Montreal Impact is one of the TV games on Saturday in the UK.

The Rest

Houston Dynamo will be looking for all three points when they host a potentially jaded San Jose Earthquakes side while another possibly leggy side New England Revolution take on DC United. FC Dallas hosting Sporting Kansas City is potentially the pick of the day while Real Salt Lake and Atlanta United conclude proceedings.

Betting

I’m focusing on two matches from a betting point of view on Saturday. I was looking at a bet on the Portland Timbers but they have shortened a lot and without Fanendo Adi I’ve probably missed the acceptable prices so I’ll stick with three other bets.

I’ve seen Philadelphia Union a fair bit recently and I can’t say I’ve been impressed with them at all. Montreal Impact have had a slow start to the season but now that they have Ignacio Piatti back in their side I expect them to pick up their form. Even without him they were proving hard to beat so with him back in their side they will naturally improve. We don’t even need them to win here, a draw will do on the Asian lines and with the Union still looking for their first win of the campaign this looks a good spot for a punt on Montreal.

Houston Dynamo let me down last week but with San Jose Earthquakes playing in midweek and having a short turnaround I’m going to take the Dynamo again here. They attack with pace and purpose and unlike last week I don’t think they will be pegged back late on. If anything with their options from the bench I think they will dominate more and more the longer the match wears on so them to win and to do so with a few goals in the game looks the obvious play.
