MLS 2017 – Sporting Kansas City vs Philadelphia Union Betting Preview

The final match of the MLS season prior to the break for the Gold Cup sees Sporting Kansas City taking on Philadelphia Union in a cross conference clash. Both sides will be eager to win the match and head into the break with some momentum.

Sporting Kansas City will go back to the top in the Western Conference if they avoid defeat in this match while Phladelphia Union will move within three points of the play-offs and have games in hand.

Sporting Kansas City

Kansas City are unbeaten in their last five matches which was a run which took them to the summit of the Western Conference until FC Dallas replaced them earlier in the week. They will move back there if they extend their unbeaten run and they go into the match as the odds on favourites to win the game.

A rock solid defence has been the foundation for the success of Sporting Kansas City this season. They have conceded just 13 goals this season which is easily the best in MLS but they don’t lack for goals either with 23 in a tough Conference. They are likely to be tough to beat if they maintain their form after the break.

Philadelphia Union

After a really poor beginning to the season the Philadelphia Union have now won six of their last nine matches including their last two so they are starting to build some positivity. They probably won’t want the upcoming break to come. One concern though is when they’ve faced a top side even in this run they have been well beaten.

The Union have only conceded six goals in those nine matches which is one of the reasons why their form has improved in the last month or so. If they can keep defending like the way that they have been then they have enough in them with regards to goal scoring that they could still challenge for the play-offs.

Team News

Sporting Kansas City will be without their international trio of Matt Besler, Graham Zusi and Dom Dwyer while Gerso is a doubt with a shoulder injury.

Philadelphia Union are without internationals of their own with Alejandro Bedoya and Andre Blake away with their countries. Maurice Edu is out with a fractured leg while Jack Elliott is among those questionable to compete.

Betting

I’ve had a decent week in MLS in this round of matches so I am more than happy to take my profit and run. Both these sides are affected by internationals and in truth the prices are about right anyway so rather than push something I’m unsure of playing I will sit this out and save the money for the Gold Cup.
