MLS 2017 – Toronto FC vs Chicago Fire Betting Preview

The weekend fixture list in the MLS begins in Toronto on Friday night with an Eastern Conference battle between Toronto FC and Chicago Fire, a match which pits two of the biggest stars in Major League Soccer against each other.

For the first time in the MLS Sebastian Giovinco goes up against the German star Bastian Schweinsteiger with both men looking to be the talisman for their side in the quest for three points.

Toronto FC

The Canadian outfit have found wins hard to come by this season. They have only managed to keep their noses in front once so far in this campaign although they only have one defeat in their six matches too. They have a lot of draws which suggests they are hard to beat and while drawing keeps momentum going they will be looking for a win here.

Toronto have plenty of Friday night home matches this season so they will be looking to make BMO Field a bit of a fortress in these games. We know they have no issues in attack with Giovinco and Jozy Altidore among the best partnerships in the league. The acid test will come in how they keep them out at the other end.

Chicago Fire

The Fire have been the whipping boys for the last couple of seasons but their pre-season recruiting always made them look much more dangerous this season and then the addition to that of Schweinsteiger was a real statement of intent and in my eyes puts them firmly among the list of sides who are genuine contenders in this league.

Chicago head into the match in third place in the Eastern table and a win here will move them to the top of it ahead of the remainder of the matches this weekend but they are yet to win on their travels this season. Like most sides in the league the majority of their points have come on their home field.

Team News

Toronto FC are without a couple of key players at the back end of the field. Drew Moor is missing from defence with a heart issue while goalkeeper Clint Irwin is out with an injury too.

Chicago midfield John Goossens has had surgery on his right ankle and faces months out on the sideline. They have no fresh injury issues though.

Betting

I think this will be an entertaining match. Toronto love to get the ball in and around Giovinco and let him do his thing while Chicago can be dangerous on the counter too so I fancy a few goals in this one especially with Toronto FC missing a couple of key cogs at the back end of the field.

Giovinco and Altidore are pretty potent at this level while Nikolic has started the campaign well for the Fire and given the way the styles of the two sides should blend I like over 2.75 goals in this one.
