MLS 2017 – Toronto FC vs New York City FC Betting Preview

The final MLS match before the All-Stars game on Wednesday night comes from BMO Field in Toronto on Sunday evening as two of the top three in the Eastern Conference meet for the second time in a matter of weeks as Toronto FC host New York City FC.

The two sides drew 2-2 earlier this month at Yankee Stadium and hopefully we will get another entertaining clash here. The match is live on Sky in the UK for those of us wanting to watch it.

Toronto FC

I would imagine if you asked the Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney if he would take being top of the table with the chance to go five points clear with a win here at the start of the season he would hve snapped your hand off and he definitely would have done that given the amount of players he hs had away on international duty recently.

The Gold Cup is finished now so the bulk of his squad have returned to the club which should leave Toronto in a position to kick on again as they look to make it back to the play-offs. They are unbeaten at home this season which will give them plenty of confidence to go into this match with, not that they need any more of it.

New York City FC

New York City will still be smarting from the brutal beating they took at the hands of Toronto FC in the play-offs last season and dropping two more points to them at home recently will have done nothing for their positive thoughts towards this opposition. With that it is hard to see Patrick Vieira’s men lacking for motivation here.

Another reason why the sky-blues shouldn’t lack of motivation is the fact that a win here will see them move to the top of the Eastern Conference and with us in the second half of the regular season they would hit the top at just the right time. Their form on the road is indifferent however so this will be a test.

Team News

All eyes will be on the Toronto FC coach to see if he recalls Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley right away after their international excursions. One man who will need replacing is Benoit Cheyrou who has torn his calf.

New York City remain without the likes of Khiry Shelton, Rodney Wallace, Miguel Camargo and Ronald Matarrita but David Villa is available before he joins up with the MLS All-Stars.

Betting

I like goals in this match. There are usually goals when these two collide and I don’t see this one being any different. Toronto FC are a confident side at home but New York City FC can counter attack with the best of them so both should get to play the way they want.

It was only ten days ago these two drew 2-2 when Giovinco left the game early and Altidore didn’t even play. Assuming both feature for longer here the goal potential is naturally higher which can see a 2.75 goal line safely covered.
