MLS 2018 – LA Galaxy vs Colorado Rapids Betting Preview

A mini midweek set of matches in Major League Soccer get underway on Tuesday evening, which is the very early hours of Wednesday morning for those of us in the UK, as LA Galaxy host the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference.

The Galaxy currently sit fourth in the table but the chasing pack has closed right in and they can afford few slip ups if they are going to win make it to the postseason. The Rapids aren’t going beyond the regular season but they have found some form in recent weeks.

LA Galaxy

The Galaxy go into this match with just one defeat from their last 11 matches but they will not need to be reminded that the loss came against the Colorado Rapids earlier in the month. That may mean they have an ounce of revenge on their mind heading into this contest but more importantly they will want the three points to boost their play-off chances.

Galaxy matches have been high scoring in recent times with their attacking play clearly compromising their defensive qualities. I personally don’t mind that as it is something different in the West which can be quite a tight and tactical Conference. It does however leave them vulnerable at times which may be a concern if they make the postseason.

Colorado Rapids

It was a really poor start to the season for the Colorado Rapids but since the transfer window they have been beginning to find some form. It is too late for that to make a difference this season but if they can finish well they could carry that positivity into the next campaign which may well be crucial for them moving forward.

With that in mind it isn’t as though they have nothing to play for here. A victory here would be their third in succession and would extend their form to just one defeat in six matches which is not too shabby. Crucially they have begun to score goals in recent times. They have found the net twice in three of their last four matches which represents an upturn in form.

Team News

Los Angeles could be without two key men in Romain Alessandrini and Giovanni dos Santos so Seb Lletget is in line for a start. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is available for this match unlike when the two sides met in Denver.

Colorado Rapids will be without Kip Colvey with concussion while Shkelzen Gashi is rated as questionable with an Achilles injury. Axel Sjoberg also faces missing the match with a knee problem.

Betting

As with most LA Galaxy matches in recent times I’m expecting to see goals in this match. The Galaxy are looking excellent going forward, especially at Stubhub Center where they have notched 15 goals in their last five matches. They have conceded two or more in seven of their last nine matches so Galaxy games are high scoring at the minute.

Since Kellyn Acosta arrived from FC Dallas, the Rapids have shown a lot more in attacking areas and look like finding the net much more. I think they are going to struggle to keep Galaxy out here but there is no reason why they can’t register themselves on the scoresheet and so over 3.25 goals looks a fair bet once again.
