MLS 2018 – New York City FC vs Chicago Fire Betting Preview

The MLS regular season might be heading towards its conclusion but there is still room for one match in midweek which comes from Yankee Stadium on Wednesday evening when New York City FC look to get back on track when they host the Chicago Fire.

This match is all about the home side who could do with a victory not just for their confidence and a bit of positivity to take into the postseason but also to ease fears that they might need to travel in the first round of the play-offs.

New York City FC

The wheels have really come off for New York City FC in the second half of the campaign. In fairness pretty much from the minute Patrick Vieira left for Nice they have been struggling and they go into this match off the back of a winless run which now stands at six matches. That has seen their hopes of a postseason first round bye end and now they are setting their sights on being at home to open up the playoffs.

To be fair there have been things out of their control that has gone against them. They have had a huge number of injuries and they have generally been to key players. Sometimes you can get around that but when they come along at the same time it makes things difficult so they will be hoping to get everyone back up and running by the time knockout football comes along.

Chicago Fire

It is been a pretty wretched season for the Chicago Fire, which is disappointing given the progression that they looked to have made last term. To regress to the extent in which they have will have not gone down well and really all they have left to play for now is some belief and confidence to take into next year.

Injuries haven’t always helped the Fire this season but the lack of anything resembling a defensive stability coupled with an unsettled personnel in areas further up the pitch have been more damaging to them. Key players haven’t had the campaigns they had last time around as a result and the Fire have never really managed to get themselves competitive.

Team News

Alex Callens will miss this match for New York City FC as he is suspended while attacking duo Yangel Herrera and Jesus Medina could well miss out through injury. David Villa is fit though which could be significant.

Chicago Fire have a host of players who have been ruled out for this match with Luis Solignac and Matt Polster the most important ones among them. Bastian Schweinsteiger is only rated questionable so it will be interesting to see if he plays.

Betting

While they should win this match there is no way I can be backing New York City FC at threes on. In a normal world I might look at the 17/2 on Chicago Fire as a good deal of value but even though they might have turned a corner in the last couple of matches I’m wary that they are at home in an early kick off on Saturday evening.

When we see the line ups it might produce something but even then nothing in any of the side markets is really floating my boat for this match so this is one of the more obvious no bet games for me this season.
