New York Red Bulls vs Atlanta United (00.30)

The New York Red Bulls have it all to do if they are going to keep their season alive for one final match. They have to beat Atlanta United by three clear goals although if Atlanta score it will need to be four after a first leg to forget.

Atlanta United take a 3-0 lead to the Big Apple with them as they look to send Tata Martino off in the MLS Cup final. It would take something quite extraordinary for the Red Bulls to turn this tie around and while the temptation is to take the Red Bulls to win given their need it doesn’t always work out that the team that needs to win does so. I don’t see Atlanta being too expansive here so the overs don’t inspire me. I think this first game is best left alone.

Sporting Kansas City vs Portland Timbers (02.30)

The second leg of the Western Conference final is perfectly poised after Sporting Kansas City and Portland Timbers drew 0-0 in their first leg at Providence Park on Sunday evening. Therefore it is winner takes all on Thursday night.

Sporting Kansas City have already been in a similar position to this having had the same fate in their Conference semi-final and they came through and they will fancy their chances of coming through here but Portland Timbers got a result in Seattle in the last round and will know that if they score Kansas City are going to need two to go through.

I think we are going to see goals here. The first one changes the whole dynamic of the tie and will leave the conceders needing to open up in a bid to score which in turn will give the team who scores more space to add another. The first leg was goalless but there were chances. I think we’ll see more risks here. The over is the way forward.
