MLS 2018 – Saturday 21st July Matches Betting Preview

We have another busy evening in the MLS on Saturday as both Conferences begin to sort themselves out and the contenders for the postseason begin to announce themselves as dangers to the rest of the competition.

We have two matches on TV for those of us who are in the UK while as ever there are a number of ways of watching the rest of the games on what feels like a big night in the regular season of the league.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)

Atlanta United vs DC United (20.30)

Seattle Sounders vs Vancouver Whitecaps (21.00)

Chicago Fire vs Toronto FC (00.00)

New York Red Bulls vs New England Revolution (00.00)

Philadelphia Union vs Los Angeles Galaxy (00.00)

Columbus Crew vs Orlando City (00.30)

Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas (02.00)

Real Salt Lake vs Colorado Rapids (03.00)

Big Matches

The two matches on the TV in the UK are the ones which see Atlanta United hosting DC United in what could be the first MLS start for Wayne Rooney for the visitors while Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be the centre of attention in the second game when his Los Angeles Galaxy side head east to face Philadelphia Union. With Sporting Kansas City not playing this weekend and Los Angeles FC playing on Sunday, DC United have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference when they head to Houston Dynamo.

Best of the Rest

New York Red Bulls will be looking to continue their good campaign when they host New England Revolution at the Red Bull Arena while there is a clash between two good sides in Seattle when the Seattle Sounders host the Vancouver Whitecaps. Portland Timbers will look to pick up another home win when they host the Montreal Impact.

Betting

There simply has to be goals to open up the night when Atlanta United take on DC United. Atlanta United are free scoring at home and have arguably the best attack in the competition but DC United love to get it forward and go on the counter attack. Some sides sit back at Atlanta and look to contain but DC United don’t have that mindset or indeed the quality in defensive areas to do that so I’m expecting an open match and one in which over 3.25 goals should comfortably land.

I’m also expecting to see goals in the other TV match when Philadelphia Union host the Los Angeles Galaxy. Both these sides have goals in them and you wouldn’t want to rely on either of them defensively. Los Angeles have adopted a much more attacking approach since Zlatan arrived and that has been to the detriment of their defensive stability. Philadelphia have the level of players to hurt people in attack too but they are not the strongest at the back. Over 3 goals looks a line to attack to me.
