MLS 2018 – Sunday 13th May Matches Betting Preview

A high scoring weekend in the MLS concludes with three matches on Sunday night and if you like your Major League Soccer then get a pizza ordered and the beers in the fridge because this promises to be a great evening of football.

Two of the three matches are live on TV for those of us in the UK and the other one is live on all the usual streaming consoles so there is no reason not to watch any of it. We’ll go through the three matches in kick off order.

Portland Timbers vs Seattle Sounders (21.00)

The opening match of the night is the Cascadia Cup clash between the two former MLS champions Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders at Providence Park. It is fair to say both sides struggled at the start of the campaign but are beginning to show signs of life.

Portland go into the match off the back of three wins in a row but Seattle saw off the defending champions Toronto FC in midweek which should have significantly boosted their confidence heading to their arch-rivals. If I had to pick the winner here I would go with Portland but this is a derby and backing them at odds against in what is likely to be a tight and hard fought match is not really for me.

Orlando City vs Atlanta United (23.00)

The second match of the night is the one I have been most looking forward to as the two form horses of MLS do battle when Orlando City take on Atlanta United in a huge Eastern Conference clash.

Orlando City have won their last six matches going into this one and are playing some football that is really pleasing on the eye. Atlanta United suffered a surprise defeat at home to Sporting Kansas City in midweek although they weren’t helped in their quest by goalkeeper Brad Guzan being sent off in the first half.

That red card and subsequent suspension helps my bet in this match though because I’m very much expecting goals to be scored in this one. Two of the best strikers in MLS are on show here in Dom Dwyer and Josef Martinez and both are in good form while two of the better playmakers around are in this one too in Sacha Kljestan and Miguel Almiron. Both these sides are extremely attack minded and the goals should really flow here. I’ll gladly take over 3.25 in this one.

Los Angeles FC vs New York City FC (01.30)

The two sides who went into the weekend in second place in their respective Conferences meet in the final match of the evening as Los Angeles FC host New York City FC in a match which could very easily be the MLS Cup Final later in the season.

These are two teams who are very good to watch and both have begun the season very well so we should be in for an entertaining contest here. Both sides are technically extremely proficient so you’ve got to think the defences will be in for tough evenings here. Both sides are averaging more than three goals in their matches this season and I expect that average to increase after this one.
