MLS 2018 – Sunday 19th August Matches Betting Preview

There are three matches on Sunday evening to round off the latest set of games in the MLS with the Eastern Conference being in the spotlight early on before the attention then turns to a competitive Western Conference.

The first of the three matches is live on TV for those of us in the UK and then we are reduced to the live streams for the other two games but all three look like good matches on paper so there should be plenty to enjoy.

Atlanta United vs Columbus Crew (21.00)

The opening match of the night sees two of the top four in the Eastern Conference doing battle when Atlanta United host the Columbus Crew in a match where revenge could be on the minds of the home side after the Crew dumped them out of the play-offs last season.

Atlanta saw themselves knocked off of top spot in the table on Saturday night when the New York Red Bulls drew in Vancouver but they will return to the summit with a win here. Columbus Crew are surging after a poor run of form so this one is perfectly poised for a cracking game of football.

The goal line for this one is at 3 which I suspect has a lot to do with the tight play-off match here last year but I don’t think this will be as tight. Atlanta will go forward with the freedom of a side who will finish in the playoffs while the Crew arrive full of confidence. I think that gets covered in another great match at the Mercedes-Benz.

DC United vs New England Revolution (00.30)

The second match of the night might actually be the biggest one of the evening as DC United take on New England Revolution in a match which could have big implications when it comes to the play-off places at the end of the season.

These two sides sit in the two places immediately below the play-off places but with a stack of games in hand and a win here for either will hopefully see them launch a charge for the postseason. In fairness to DC United they have already engaged that charge while New England are going the other way with just one win in eight matches.

The easy pick here would be for DC to win the match but I am wary that they played in midweek so I’m going to go with goals here in case they fade late on. New England have conceded two or more in seven of their last eight matches while DC United have not kept a clean sheet for 15 games. Given the need for both to win you get the feeling there will be an attacking and end to end element about this contest so over 3.25 looks the pick here.

Los Angeles FC vs Colorado Rapids (03.00)

The final match of the night sees us head to the Western Conference where Los Angeles FC could move level on points with second in the table when they play host to a Colorado Rapids side who are just playing out the rest of the season.

Colorado might just be playing the season out but they are doing it pretty well. They have lost just one of their last six matches while LAFC have won just one of their last six. That did come in midweek against Real Salt Lake but even after that something tells me they are not good things here. Colorado have been much more competitive since Kellyn Acosta arrived but I still don’t trust them enough to deliver on the road. This is best left alone in my opinion.
