MLS 2018 – Thursday 26th July Matches Betting Preview

The midweek round of matches in the MLS concludes with two more matches on Thursday evening as we begin to head towards the time where sides are thinking about consolidating play-off spots or making a charge for them.

Three of the four sides in action are looking good for berths in the postseason while the other one has the ability to get involved if they can put a burst of form together over the next few months. Both these matches are on TV for those of us in the UK.

Orlando City vs New York City FC (01.00)

The evening begins in Florida when the consistently inconsistent Orlando City host the solid New York City FC in a battle between two sides from the Eastern Conference. Orlando have lost four of their last five while New York City have won four of their previous five matches so form would suggest and away win here.

The home side has generally done well in this fixture throughout the years so that will give Orlando a timely boost here but they will need to raise their game if they are to handle New York City. I’m no fan of backing away sides in MLS though so I’m reluctant to get involved on the visitors here. Ordinarily I would take the overs in this one but there are fitness doubts over David Villa, Jo Berget and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi for the away side so I would need to see one if not two of them in the side before I commit to anything so this is a no bet one for me initially.

Los Angeles FC vs Los Angeles Galaxy (03.30)

The second Los Angeles derby of the season takes place in the second match of the night when Los Angeles FC host their rivals Los Angeles Galaxy. The first match between these two was an absolute classic and hopefully this one lives up to that one.

That occasion was the debut of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the league and he duly announced himself with a brace as Galaxy came from 3-0 down to win 4-3. Since then FC have gone from strength to strength but they were brought down a peg or two last weekend when Minnesota took them for five.

That highlights how LAFC can be opened up and there is more than enough quality in the Galaxy attack to expose them further here. LAFC have goals in them though so I’m expecting the goals to flow in this one and with that in mind over 3.5 goals looks the play here.
